CGivifviiTTEE Of COUNCIL DATE: FeferuoAj l4-lto,2ol/

Ms. Dubenofsky,

By way of this email I would like to request, on behalf of the Chinguacousy Concert Band (Inc.), an operational funding grant from the City of . I am certain you are already familiar with our organization and in particular our two groups, the Chinguacousy Swing Orchestra and of course the Chinguacousy Concert Band.

We have worked diligently over the past few years to meet the recently established criteria applied to other groups to be eligible for funding. You can see outlined on the attached fact sheet, and below, that the organization has not only proven successful in festivals and competitions near and far, but also has a rich and far reaching heritage; the origins of the band dating back to 1872.

We respectfully request for the 2011 budget an operational funding grant from the City in the amount of $10,000.00 primarily to be used to cover professional development for our musical director, print music purchases, and equipment maintenance to ensure our musical instruments and library are available for future generations of Bramptonians to enjoy.

This is not an unusual or unprecedented request. In the 1970's and 80's; before the City's funding strategy changed, we received adequate amounts for operation. As an example from our archives; Donald Gordon approved a similar operational grant for $7,000.00 in 1978. Were we to apply an inflationary rate to this amount to bring it to present day, it would equal over $22,000,001 Fortunately over our years we have learned to remain budget conscious and our operational funding requirements have been trimmed to the minimum.

Since the City has in recent years been restoring funding to those affiliate organizations who meet the recently introduced criteria, which we also believe as a group we have achieved, we make this modest request in order to continue to provide high quality entertainment for the citizens of Brampton. Both bands that are in operation today continue to perform at many Civic and non-profit/charitable events across the City. The CSO also recently performed at the MusicFest Canada National Festival in , and returned back to Brampton carrying a gold award in the highest classification of the festival. This level of musicality not only reflects the band's rich heritage, but also the high quality of Arts that Brampton produces.

Should this request require, in your opinion, a delegation appearance during budget deliberations, at your discretion we would be pleased and honoured to attend. I would just ask that you would be able to provide a singular date if possible. My availability is flexible yet in high demand through my position at Crestron Electronics (a company with whom I hope you are also familiar). Please feel free to contact me at any time for clarification or any further information.

Best regards, Al Bourke President Chinguacousy Concert Band Inc. Chinguacousy Swing Orchestra [email protected] b^'l-l

The Chinguacousy Band Orchestra and Swing Hand Attention: Al Bourke

Dear Al:

I wanted to drop you a note to lei you know how happy we were to have The Chinguacousy Concert Band and Swing Orchestra participate in our many past events at the Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park. Your bands music and performance drew a lot of attention, smiling faces and happy sounds.

The buzz about performance seemed to be contagious. 1 had the opportunity to catch a show and speak to some of the attendees of which the response was overwhelmingly positive. The opportunity for the young to see the "band" style of music, various instruments and sounds is truly unique. The opportunity for the older generations brought back memories of the old band era!! Your interaction with the spectators and catchy sounds made it impossible for someone to "just walk by".

As an event planner, one of the major headaches is the set up. With your very minimal needs and your attention to detail, our operation for this show was extremely simple.

We would definitely like the opportunity to discuss next year's events with you and how we can involve your bands.

Once again Al. thank you for the excellent contribution, enthusiasm and attention to detail that ensured your participation in our event was successful.

It was a pleasure working with you and I would recommend your show to the young and old!

Respectfully
