1. WHICH ARE THE MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH? The University of offers two courses totally taught in English and five courses taught both in Italian and English. WHAT IS THE DURATION OF A MASTER DEGREE COURSE? The duration of a Master Degree course is generally of two Academic years. 3. CAN I HAVE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT MASTER DEGREE COURSES OFFERED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF BERGAMO? Yes, of course. On our English website you can find whatever information you are looking for. You can find flyers and information about these courses in this section. 4. WHAT IS THE SERVICE ADDRESSED TO DISABLED STUDENTS? This service provide support for disabled students. IS THERE THE POSSIBILITY TO ENROLL IN THIS UNIVERSITY EVEN IF I CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH LANGUAGE? Lessons and exams will be in English and/or Italian. If you cannot speak these languages, it can be a problem for you. Furthermore, you need a B2 level of English to enroll and to be accepted. 6. CAN I ENROLL FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER? No, you cannot. You can enroll before the beginning of the first semester. ( Every Year in September/October) 7. WHEN DOES THE ACADEMIC YEAR START? The Academic Year starts in October and finishes in May. During the Academic year are foreseen mid term breaks in November and in December (for Christmas Holidays). The first exam session is usually in January and February, and the other ones between May and October. 8. WHERE CAN I GET INFORMATION ABOUT PRE-ENROLLMENT, ENROLLMENT AND FEES WHEN I ARRIVE AT UNIBG?

10. WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY FOR A MASTER DEGREE? To apply for a Master’ Degree Course you must have a Bachelor’s Degree Qualification or, if you are a Foreign Student, a suitable and approved Educational Qualification. You should present your Educational Qualification (High School qualification and Bachelor’s Degree) translated in Italian language and legalized, the statement of value of your Qualification issued by the Italian Consulate in your Country/ the Embassy, the degree certificate with a list of the passed exams and a certification which states your level of language knowledge. 11. WHAT IS THE STATEMENT OF VALUE (DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE)? A statement of value is useful to get information about the student’s Home University and his/her educational qualification. It is issued by Italian Embassy in the student’s Home Country. 12. IS MY B2 ITALIAN LANGUAGE LEVEL SUITABLE TO ENROLL IN A MASTER DEGREE TAUGHT IN ITALIAN ? Your Italian Language Level is suitable for our courses taugt in Italian. 13. WHICH IS THE REQUIRED ENGLISH LEVEL? The required English Level is B2. 14. WHICH ARE THE REQUIRED ENGLISH CERTIFICATIONS? Only the following certificates are accepted with the following minimum requirements: (compulsory)

15. WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT IF I HAVE ATTENDED AN ENGLISH TAUGHT BACHELOR COURSE AT MY HOME UNIVERSITY? A- Copy of the Language of Instruction Certificate: We only accept letterhead MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION CERTIFICATE issued, stamped and signed by the Registrar’s Office , by the Student’s Office or by the International relations office of the student’s home University. It states officially that the program was taught entirely in English. You can submit it if:  You have attended and completed a degree program in a country in which English is the medium of instruction;  You have acquired a university qualification in or abroad after attending a program taught entirely in English.

16. WHAT ARE THE GPA REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMS? There are no requirements related to your GPA. 17. HOW MUCH IS THE APPLICATION FEE (PRE-ENROLLMENT FEE)? The pre-enrollment fee is 52.00€. 18. CAN I PAY THE PRE-ENROLLMENT FEE IN MY COUNTRY?

19. HOW MUCH IS THE TUITION PER YEAR?

Academic year 2017-2018 (TO BE UPDATED) TUITION FEES: fees rates/ per year : Pre-enrollment fee: €52,00 (fifty two euro) Enrollment fee : €156,00 (one hundred and fifty six euro) (to be paid in September/October 2017) First Installment: from €0.00 to €400.00 (four hundred euro) according to the student's family income (to be paid in February 2018) Second installment: from €0.00 to €1,700.00 (one thousand and seven hundred euro) according to the student's family income (to be paid in May 2018).

21. HOW CAN I APPLY FOR MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS IF I AM A EUROPEAN CITIZEN/ REGULAR RESIDENT IN ITALY? If you are a European Student you can apply as Italian Student from July to September. You should contact Student’s Office [email protected], in order to receive complete information about deadline, enrolment process and where to submit your documents of studies. For all departments except Engineering: room S6, Via dei Caniana, Bergamo For the Engineering department: Via Einstein 2, Dalmine. This office will provide you information about pre-enrollment and enrollment procedures, fees payment, Certificates, Study plan, Enjoy student Card. 22.HOW CAN I APPLY FOR MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS IF I AM A NON-EUROPEAN CITIZEN? If you are a non European Student resident in a foreign country, you should forward your request through the Italian consulates in your home country within the periods and the procedures set each year by the MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education).

23. WHERE CAN I FIND THE DEADLINES RELATED PRE-EVALUATION OF THE ACADEMIC CAREER ? You can visit the webpage http://sten-unibg.prod.cineca.it/evidenza/join-us/application: here you can get information about deadlines concerning pre-evaluation for NON-EU students and Application for European and NON-european citizens. 24. ARE STUDENTS EXPECTED TO PASS AN ADMISSION TEST/ ADMISSION INTERVIEW? Yes, they are. The aim of the interview is to complete the application process by providing the Academic Board with exhaustive information about the applicant's motivation and competences. Students must pay the pre-enrollment fee of 52€ before the interview. Only after passing the admission interview, if all requirements have been satisfied, applicants will be enrolled. 25. HOW CAN I GET MY ADMISSION LETTER? The Admission letter is issued only for candidate who has passed the pre-evaluation of the academic career and the skype admission interview. 26.WHAT ARE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO APPLY AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT? To enroll in a Master’s degree course, you must submit the following documents to the relevant Italian Diplomatic Representative:

DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR THE APPLICATION AT THE ITALIAN EMBASSY IN THE CANDIDATE’S COUNTRY

a) a degree attained at a University or post-secondary qualification obtained at a non-university higher institute that allows the continuation of studies at academic institutions in the next level; b) certificate issued by the competent University certifying the exams passed, as well as for each discipline, the detailed programs for the achievement of the aforementioned titles. The student can check at the time of publication of the places that each University reserves for individual degree programs, if and for which foreign languages it is or is not exempt from translating this certificate. Post-secondary studies (exams and credits) already completed can be attested by the Diploma Supplement, if adopted; c) two photographs (one of which is authenticated by the Italian Representation responsible for the territory); d) the Letter of eligibility for enrollment (if available) e) FORM A Please be aware you should CONTACT THE EMBASSY of your Country in Italy to get more information about documents, Visa and necessary bank statement to obtain it.

27 HOW CAN PRE-ENROL AT UNIVERSITY OF BERGAMO ONLINE? pre-enrolment process now consists in filling-in another pre-enrolment on-line section similar to the one already done for pre- evaluation and payment the contribution of 52,00 € fee as soon as possible (deadline 30 May)

On the Home Page of unibg.it: - click on SPORTELLO INTERNET STUDENTI and on the flag ENG; - Login in with user name and password; - select Registrar's Office; - Admission test (not Enrolment!); - Master's degree (two years); - fill in the information required until confirmation of the form. - Next step is confirming that you need to pay the contribution. To provide it with payment from abroad, you can use the bank reference in attachment. Please remember to indicate clearly, name, surname and the name of the course and pre-enrolment. After paying, please send to the Student’s Office [email protected] (the office in charge for pre- enrollment and enrollment) and [email protected] the receipt of payment.

28. WHAT ARE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR MY STAY IN BERGAMO? For your stay in Bergamo these are the necessary documents:

 Valid Passport  Visa for Non-EU countries  Passport-sized photographs (for documents to be issued in Italy)  Other documents necessary for the issue of a Residence Permit  Italian Tax Code

29. WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO APPLY FOR THE PERMIT OF RESIDENCE? When you arrive in Bergamo you should contact the International Office and fix an appointment. They will help you in applying for the Residence Permit. 1. First step: apply for the Tax Code at Agenzia delle Entrate. Documents: a copy of the passport, including the page with the Italian Visa a copy of the pre-enrolment tax payment / PhD contract

2. Second Step: Patronato UIL. Documents: • Copy of your Codice Fiscale • Copy of your Passport (personal data + VISA + all stamped pages) • Copy of the payment of the or copy of the payment pre-enrollment fee (52 euro), copy of your Admission letter and copy of your enrolment certificate • Copy of the Dichiarazione di Ospitalità/Declaration of Hospitality • Copy of your Health Insurance Policy (which must be valid in Italy and should cover the whole period of the Permit of Residence) • A special stamp called ‘MARCA DA BOLLO’, costs € 16,00 (to buy at the Tobacconist)

3. Third step: go to the Post Office. Documents: bring the open envelope received from Patronato. At the Post Office you should pay around €100. They will give you the receipt with the date and the time for the first appointment at Questura.

4. Fourth Step: Go to the Questura (Police Station). Documents: Take with you ALL the documents required in the KIT. There, you will be asked to: - show the receipt you obtained from the Post Office - take fingerprints - show the originals of the documents you put in the KIT - add updated certificates - bring four passport-sized photos

After that you will receive a new receipt from the Questura in order to obtain your electronic Residence Permit (about 30/50 days later). You will receive an SMS from the Questura with the date of the appointment to collect it. You will also receive another letter for a compulsory appointment (see integration agreement): ‘Civic formation session and civil lifestyle in Italy’. 30. CAN I KEEP THE FISCAL CODE CREATED BY SPORTELLO INTERNET DURING MY REGISTRATION? No, you cannot. You must go to Agenzia delle Entrate (Italian Revenue Agency) and apply for a Fiscal Code. Don’t forget that here in Italy Tax Code is very important, because: you can open a postal or bank account, sign any house contract, sign contracts with companies (mobile phone, Internet, electricity, gas, water…etc) and take up employment. You can require it at the Italian Consulates authorities in your Country before reaching Bergamo, or you can apply for it once you arrive in Italy (you should apply for it as soon as possible). 31. CAN I TRAVEL EVEN IF I AM WAITING FOR MY RESIDENCE PERMIT? If you have only the Receipt of Application, you are not allowed to travel outside Italy or to go back to your Home Country (unless you have a valid VISA for Schengen Countries).

32. I MUST APPLY FOR THE RENEWAL OF MY RESIDENCE PERMIT: HOW CAN I DO THAT? In case of renewal of the residence permit, about two months before the expiry date, you will be asked to fill in the Kit to apply for a residence permit which is available at the Post Office. Take into account the following expenses: € 153.50 for the application itself (€ 107.50 for the stay permit + € 30 for the postal service + € 16 for the revenue stamp) + € 149.77 for the National Health insurance. The Kit must be handed in at the Post Office together with the following documents:

 A valid passport with Visa + copy of the personal data page with dates of validity and expiration of the document  Your Residence Permit + Two copies of your stay permit (sided) (keep the original document and submit only the photocopies - Please submit the original Permit of Residence at the appointment at Questura)  Copy of the documentation certifying the availability of adequate financial resources (e.g. scholarship certification (e.g. scholarship certification (issued by Servizio allo studio or a print out of your bank account)  Certification for students which attests you have passed the exams (issued by Student’s Office)

 Copy of your new upadted health insurance contract or copy of your insurance card  Copy of your Dichiarazione di Ospitalità/Declaration of hospitality (provided by the landlord or

Accommodation office/a certificate issued by Servizio allo studio if you live in a University Residence)  one tax stamp (MARCA DA BOLLO) of 16,00€

32. DO I NEED A HEALTH INSURANCE? In Italy medical treatments without coverage are very expensive, and travel insurances usually only cover medical emergencies and are valid for a limited period of time. Students from European Countries should bring with them the European Health Insurance Card. Non-EU Students may purchase a health insurance policy with the Italian National Health Service. The service is offered at a cost of €149,77. In order to sign up for the HEALTH INSURANCE CARD (tessera sanitaria) students have to address the A.S.L. (Azienda Sanitaria Locale) of Bergamo or the A.S.L of the city of residence (Office “Scelta e revoca del medico”). Asl Bergamo: Via Borgo Palazzo 130 – Building 6 - 24125, Bergamo. Tel. 035/2270335 - 035/2270334. If you have medical problems take sure to have always your stay permit and your “Tessera di assistenza sanitaria”/Health Insurance Card with you. For general" medical treatments (e.g. flu, prescriptions, a cold, etc.) you have to go to a general practitioner (medico di base) and the visit will be free of charge. In order to choose a GP (medico) check on this link: http://www.asl.bergamo.it/servizi/anagraficamedica/medici_fase01.aspx -Type “Bergamo” in the “Comune “ box. For specialist treatments go to the general practitioner you have chosen first: you will be given a red prescription form and then you should contact the CUP, Centro Unico Prenotazioni. Foreign students who apply for a residence permit usually take out private insurance However, this insurances are very limited and only covers urgent medical assistance (surgical operations and accidents) at the casualty or emergency departments of any hospital. 33. CAN I APPLY FOR ANY INTERNSHIPS?

Yes, you can. You can find support vocation and internship activities by contacting the Vocational Traineeship and Work Placement office. It is situated in Via San Bernardino 72/e, 2nd floor. Other opportunities are available in your Sportello Internet (Tirocinio e Placement> Opportunità).

34. IS THERE A SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR FOREIGN STUDENT?

During the A.Y. 2018-19 the University of Bergamo offers 14 study grants of €8.000 gross to deserving EU and EXTRA EU students who wish to enroll at THE FIRST YEAR of the following Masters’ degree Courses taught in English. TOP INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 35. CAN I APPLY FOR ANY SCHOLARSHIPS?

Every year STUDENTS' AID SERVICE/ SERVIZIO ALLO STUDIO of the UNIBG offers a number of financial benefits that include scholarships, grants for participation in international mobility programmes, graduation awards, interest - free loans. The benefits are awarded through a competition, held annually on the basis of specific financial and merit requirements. The second installment will be paid starting from June 2019 NOTA BENE:To apply for financial benefits, students enrolled at UNIBG, must obtain an ISEEU certification from an Authorized Fiscal Assistance Centre (called CAF in Italy). An ISEEU (Indicator of the economic situation for University purposes) estimates the economic situation of families. It takes into account income, properties (i.e. houses, shares, assets, dividends) and the composition of the family.

36 . WHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES FOR ACCOMMODATION FOR PRE-ENROLLED STUDENTS?

You can choose among three options:

1) Temporary accommodation for short period: for example, hostels and B&B. 2) University dormitory: our University offers residences for students who are enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses. If you applied for University dormitory, we advise you to find a temporary accommodation (hostel or B&B) valid for the period before the allocation of the rooms. 3) Private accommodation: the accommodation service assists Students in finding accommodation in private apartments and in signing relevant contracts. 4) In almost every Department you can find one or more notice boards with advertisements about book and apartments: as a matter of fact, a lot of students, or young people, look for roommates to share their apartments.

40. IF I WANT TO RESERVE A TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION BEFORE MY ARRIVAL IN ITALY, WHERE CAN I LOOK FOR?

If you choose to reserve a room before your arrival in Italy, you can get information on-line about different places. On our University website you can find all information and guides about accommodation: there’s a list of available places, B&B, Hostels, Residences.

41. CAN I APPLY FOR THE UNIVERSITY DORMITORY? UNIVERSITY HALLS OF RESIDENCE: Competition Notice for Admission to the Accommodation Service for students enrolled in the University of Bergamo AY 2018 /2019 (to be pyblished) APPLICATION ON LINE: www.unibg.it/isu (opening approximately July 2018) REQUEST A PASSWORD: http://193.204.255.95:8080/isu/ OFFICE IN CHARGE: SERVIZIO DIRITTO ALLO STUDIO (ticket – tracking) COST: A room in the University hall of Residence costs between 110-200 euro/month according to family income. Scholarship beneficiaries have right to free accommodation. DEPOSIT: You are required to pay 300,00 € deposit in order to enter in your room HOW TO PAY DEPOSIT: you can pay deposit by bank transfer with the payment details that will be given by Servizio Diritto allo studio RANKING: Approx. 42. WHEN CAN I APPLY FOR IT?

Prospective and pre-enrolled students can submit their on-line application at call starting from July to the beginning of September.

43. WHEN WILL THE CALL FOR ADMISSION TO UNIVERSITY DORMITORY BE PUBLISHED ON THE WEBSITE?

Call for contest for Admission to the University Dormitory for Students will be published in September.

46. WHERE CAN I FIND IT?

47. WHEN WILL THE UNIVERSITY DORMITORY BE AVAILABLE?

ALLOCATION OF THE ROOM: After the publication of the Accommodation Ranking, beneficiary students have to accept or refuse the accommodation place by sending an email to [email protected](link sends e- mail) and by attaching the documentation listed in the Notice (www.unibg.it/isu > bandi e graduatorie). Then they will receive a conformation email. The participation in the competition does not assure the availability of the accommodation place.

48. IS THERE A SUPPORT SERVICE PROVIDED DURING THE RESEARCH FOR ACCOMMODATION? Our University provides a support service in order to help students finding accommodation near our department building. This service is managed by the Accommodation Office and it is addressed to students who paid the pre-enrollment fee. For more information visit the website http://www.unibg.it/campus-e- servizi/servizi-gli-studenti/accommodation-service. 49. HOW DOES THE ACCOMMODATION SERVICE WORK? Pre-enrolled and enrolled Students who are interested in finding an accommodation through this service must fill in the on line application form, available from the second half of June. You will find a list of available accommodations, a short description of apartments, prices, pictures, with on-line reservation. All students pay a deposit fee of € 300.00 to be refunded at the end of tenancy. Rents are to be paid to the owners monthly, at the beginning of each month. The contract registration fee is approximately € 100.00. Before departure students are required to pay the owner a final cleaning charge of € 30.00. Monthly rents are € 270.00 per bed in a double room and € 350 in single room (charges included). HOW MUCH IS THE ACCOMMODATION? The maximum monthly price will be around €280,00/ €350,00, depending on the apartment you choose. Everything is included in this price. When you reserve online your apartment you have to pay 300€ as security fee, to make your reservation complete. The security fee will be given back at the end of the rent, with the prior check of the apartment conditions. 51. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACCOMMODATION OFFICE AND STUDENT’S AID SERVICE (SERVIZIO DIRITTO ALLO STUDIO)? The accommodation office puts you in touch with landlords who manage private apartments. In general in these apartments live Erasmus or International students: thanks to this service you can find accommodation on your own. Otherwise, the Student’s Aid Service provides you rooms of the University Dormitory: these residences belong to the University and you can apply for them by submitting a specific application form on our website. 52. WHAT IS THE OFFICE WHICH PROVIDES ME INFORMATION ABOUT STUDY PLAN?

You can find information about Study Plan writing to the Student’s Office (Segreteria Studenti). You can complete your Study Plan in your Sportello Internet.

53. WHAT IS THE ENJOY CARD?

Enjoy Card is a multifunctional card realized by UNIBG with the cooperation of UBI Banca Popolare di Bergamo

FUNCTIONS:-you have access to canteens and libraries of UNIBG as a student (and, for this reason, you can get discounts and borrow books)

- If you need some photocopies you can pay them with your Enjoy Card, by charging money through the machines which are available in many of our buildings.

-You can pay University rates and receive money for requested scholarships

-You can get discounts in stores supporting the US circuit Card

-You can use it like any rechargeable credit card

54. HOW CAN I GET IT?

To get it you should follow the following procedure:

-Follow the enrollment procedure available on the website of the University http://sportello.unibg.it/esse3/Home.do

-After the appointment with Segreteria Studenti (S6 Office, Via dei Caniana or Via Einstein 2), make the payment of the first installment.

You will receive an email with an appointment at UFFICIO WEBCAM ere they will take you the photo for your Enjoy Card and you will be requested to sign a contract with UBI BANCA (this contract is related only to University services). At the appointment at the WEBCAM OFFICE bring the copy of your payment, the document you have attached during the enrollment procedure (+ a double sided copy), your tax code (and a copy) (): here they will take you the photo for your Enjoy Card and you will be requested to sign a contract with UBI BANCA (this contract is related only to University services). UBI BANCA will contact you to inform that your Enjoy Card is available within 10-15 days.

55. HOW MUCH IS THE ENJOY CARD?

Your Enjoy Card is free of charge.

57. IS THERE THE POSSIBILITY TO FIND A TEMPORARY JOB TO EARN SOME MONEY THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY?

Our University provides some work opportunities and it allows you to perform remunerated collaborations (150 hours) in Athenaum services. Foreign students shall prove to have an adequate level of fluency in Italian. 59. DOES UNIBG OFFER ANY ITALIAN COURSES FOR ENROLLED FOREIGN STUDENTS? Our University offers some Italian language courses for enrolled foreign students. 60. WHAT IS THE COST OF LIVING IN BERGAMO? Students are advised to bring with them a sufficient amount of cash or travellers' cheques to cover their immediate expenses, bearing in mind that transferring money to Italy from abroad can take some time. The fastest and safest method is by post which will take about 5 days to arrive. 61. HAS UNIBG GOT A CANTEEN? The University has a good canteen, where ERASMUS students receive a 32% discount on meals. Near every campus you can find a canteen: via dei Caniana, 2, Bergamo (Lower Town), via S. Lorenzo, 11, Bergamo (Upper town), via Pasubio, 7, Dalmine (BG). There are also plenty of snack-bars, pizza restaurants and take- away pizza shops in the area around the University. 62. WHAT IS THE BEST PUBLIC TRANSPORT TO VISIT/ GET AROUND BERGAMO? We advise you to take the bus. ATB bus service covers the city and the suburbs. Prices are convenient if you want to buy a monthly pass (only for enrolled students a reduction is applied) or a carnet of 10 tickets. In Italy tickets are bought at the tobacconist’s, at newspaper’s kiosk, at the railway station or at the ATB ticket- offices in largo Porta Nuova. You cannot buy your ticket on the bus, you have to do it previously. 63. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO REACH BERGAMO? We generally advise International students to get to Bergamo a few days before the Admission Interview. You can reach Bergamo by airplane (Orio al Serio airport) or by train. If you choose the second option you can arrive in Milan and then take the train to Bergamo from the railway station: you have the possibility to take the train from Central Station or Milano Porta Garibaldi Station. Taking a bus can be more expensive and it takes long time.
