TICKETS FOR TROOPS ANNUAL REVIEW 2016 The Sun Military Awards Nominees at Number 10 Downing Street: Tickets For Troops was nominated for ‘Support to Armed Forces’ FOREWORD Thanks to the tremendous philanthropy of our supporters and donors from the nation’s live sports and events industry, 2016 was another active year for Tickets For Troops. We worked closely with hundreds of ticketing professionals, agents, box offices, promoters, clubs, teams and many more groups to ensure our servicemen and women continued to enjoy the delights of the sporting, musical, theatrical and entertainment world. This wonderful generosity combined with some beavering away in the Tickets For Troops office ensured that we were able to distribute 152,652 complimentary tickets for 6,291 events to our military members. Half way through the year, we were delighted to welcome on board a new team of regional volunteers known as ambassadors who are responsible for helping to increase the number of donors in their respective regions. The volunteer opportunity attracted a large number of applications from all around the country and the overall standard was exceptionally high. It was humbling for the team to see how many people from within the forces community wanted to give something back to Tickets For Troops. The regional ambassadors are being managed by our newest employee Elisabeth Roberts - recruited on a part-time basis thanks to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund grant. We were sad to lose Anastasia Baker in October, she was a superb asset to the team with her excellent customer service manner and speedy ticket packaging skills - we wish her well for the future.

  • 1 Analysis of Emotional Tones in Top Hit Song Lyrics in Relation To
Analysis of Emotional Tones in Top Hit Song Lyrics in Relation to Economic Cycles from 1990-2010 Honors Undergraduate Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Business Administration Degree with Honors Research Distinction in the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University By Sharon Yeh Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration with an Operations & Logistics Specialization The Ohio State University 2019 Thesis Committee: Dr. Roger Bailey Dr. Hyunwoo Park Dr. Elliot Bendoly 1 Copyright by Sharon Yeh 2018 2 Abstract While music preferences in society have always changed throughout the decades, we recognize that various external factors and trends—including the economic environment-- affect the type of music we listen to. To this end, we seek to explore the relationship between economic measures and musical preferences in order to better understand how our external environment can affect the emotions that we choose to express and consume. This research analyzes the ways in how economic conditions (expansionary or contractionary periods) can be related to the tone of music that we listen to (such as joy, anger, and sadness). In this analysis, I found that in times of economic contractions, song lyrics were more likely to exhibit analytical and confidence tones, while in economic expansions’ lyrics tend to show more tones of sadness and anger. In understanding how something as external as economic cycles can influence something as internal as musical preferences, we can continue to seek out how our microenvironment affects our microenvironment. While this research can have practical application (such as providing insight to the music industry for forecasting musical preferences), I believe, more importantly, that this research can help society uncover and contemplate how their external environment influences and shapes their preferences, beliefs, and identity across generations.

The majority of these studies have focused on the interaction between a local language and a non-local language. In this project, I propose an analysis of the mixture of two world languages (Spanish and English), which can be categorised as both local and non-local. I do this through the analysis of the enormously successful reggaeton genre, which is characterised by its use of Spanglish. I used two data types to inform my research: a corpus of code-switching instances in top 20 reggaeton songs, and a questionnaire on attitudes towards Spanglish in general and in music. I collected 200 answers to the questionnaire – half from American English-speakers, and the other half from Spanish-speaking Hispanics of various nationalities.
