Sharma. Publisher: Cambridge University Press. ISBN: 9781107027206. Category: Business & Economics. This book is an authoritative account of the economic and political roots of the 2008 financial crisis. It examines why it was triggered in the United States, why it morphed into the Great Recession, and why the contagion spread with such ferocity around the globe. It also examines how and why economies - including the Eurozone, , , India, East Asia, and the Middle East - have been impacted and explores their response to the unprecedented challenges of the crisis and the effectiveness of their policy measures. Global Financial Contagion specifically looks at how the Obama administration's policy missteps have contributed to America's huge debt and slow recovery, why the Eurozone's response to its existential crisis has become a never-ending saga, and why the G-20's efforts to create a new international financial architecture may fall short. This book will long be regarded as the standard account of the crisis and its aftermath. DC Debuts Their Answer To The Fantastic Four. With Marvel sidelining the Fantastic Four in the comics, DC Comics has finally created their own version of the iconic team: The Terrifics. DC Comics' answer to the Fantastic Four has finally arrived, with The Terrifics #1 setting the stage for a new age of heroes. While Marvel is relaunching their comics yet again, DC is still building off of their Rebirth reset. The new initiative has seen a number of returns to the status quo, but also some exciting developments in the past year alone. Brian Michael Bendis will soon write Superman in a variety of stories. Meanwhile, the DC Universe is still dealing with the fallout of Dark Knights: Metal . The big event brought about the rise of the Dark Multiverse in the comics, which mostly lead to evil versions of Batman coming out of the woodwork and using the abilities of other key Justice League members. But as the major publishers usually do following a big event, Metal has also opened the door for a group of new heroes and books. Called 'The New Age of Heroes,' DC's latest push is giving a batch of fresh faces their own runs. And the most exciting of all maybe its newest team: The Terrifics. The Terrifics #1, written by Ivan Reis and Jeff Lemire, picks up wth Michael Holt, aka Mr. , following his adventures in the Dark Multiverse. Along for the ride is the strange egg form of Plastic Man, who has yet to come out of his repose since being exposed to the energies of the new universe. Terrific's mission takes him to Simon Stagg, who's using old TerrificTech to open a gateway to the Dark Multiverse. The result of the misguided effort, however, leads to Plastic Man returning and teaming with Terrific, Metamorpho, and Phantom Girl. Marvel has sidelined the Fantastic Four for years, with rumors that the effort is tied to Fox owning the film rights to the characters. Of course, that hasn't stopped multiple Deadpool and X-Men books and events from emerging, so it's more likely Marvel's claims that the team just doesn't sell well is the reason. Last year, we saw a tease of the return of the Fantastic Four in Legacy #1, and Human Torch and Thing have been starring in their own book. Still, it seems DC thought the time was right for their own group. DC and Marvel have ripped each other off for decades, in what's become an almost playful game at this point. Interestingly, however, Marvel's once-popular Fantastic Four have never really had an analogue. The Terrifics changes that by matching the genius Mr. Terrific with the stretchy and youthful Plastic Man (merging both Reed Richards and Johnny Storm), the Thing-like Metamorpho, and Phantom Girl, who has the phasing powers that make her quite similar to Invisible Woman. Naturally, there's the key difference that the team aren't all family and weren't given powers by the same incident, but The Terrifics looks to deliver some of the science-based adventures that Fantastic Four long excelled at. There's even a nod to Galactus in the book, so expect a lot more fun nods in the months to come. The Terrifics #1 is available now from DC and comic book retailers. Who Are The New Fantastic Four? has been cast as leader of the gang, Reed Richards – aka Mr. Fantastic. Teller’s first film role was in the powerful Nicole Kidman/Aaron Eckhart drama Rabbit Hole. He then went down the teen comedy route, playing Willard in the Footloose remake and wisecracking his way through both Project X and 21 and Over. Have you seen Nymphomaniac: Volume 1? Michael B. Jordan – Johnny Storm. Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station. Michael B. Jordan was the first of the Fantastic Four characters to be cast, no doubt partly due to the fact that he worked with director Josh Trank on Chronicle. An actor with a strong background in TV, Jordan has starred in the impressive likes of The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. WWII flick Red Tails was his first major movie project, but at this point he’s probably best known for his work in the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station. Jordan was a revelation in the searing drama, his performance receiving rave reviews and rocketing him to the top of Hollywood casting lists. His most recent effort has been That Awkward Moment, a romantic comedy in which Jordan played the best friend of… Miles Teller. And mercifully the two had great onscreen chemistry, which Fox is doubtless hoping they’ll carry over into The Fantastic Four. He’s also consistently funny in the film, suggesting he’s got the comic timing that playing Johnny requires. Kate Mara – Sue Storm. Kate Mara in House of Cards. If you’ve been watching the U.S. remake of House of Cards, you’ll know Kate Mara. As ambitious, manipulative, ruthless Washington reporter Zoe Barnes, she holds her own with the likes of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, but she’ll have to show a softer side to play Sue Storm. Like Jordan, Mara has an impressive list of TV credits, starring in 24, Nip/Tuck, Entourage and most recently . Film-wise she delivered a memorable turn in the little-seen Transsiberian, before popping up in the -packed likes of Ironclad and 2. She'll next be seen starring opposite in sci-fi flick Transendence, while after that we hopefully won’t be seeing too much of her what with Sue Storm becoming The Invisible Woman and all. – Ben Grimm. Jamie Bell in Snowpiercer. Bell hasn’t been confirmed as Ben Grimm yet, but according to today’s report, the offer is out to him. And even though he’s the youngest of the quartet, he’s got the most movie experience, having rocketed to fame as Billy Elliott at just 14. And he’s trod an interesting path since then, combining challenging indie flicks like Filth, Dear Wendy, Hallam Foe and The Chumscrubber with the blockbuster likes of Jumper, King Kong and Flags of our Fathers. He’s hardly the biggest bloke however, meaning that when Ben turns into The Thing the filmmakers will be heavily reliant on CGI. But Bell also has experience in the motion-capture field, having provided the voice and physical performance for the title character in Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. One of the most talented young actors working today, Bell will next be seen in TV series Turn, which tells "the untold story of America's first spy ring," while he’ll also be leaving little to the imagination in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, in which we may well see his 'thing'.
