Men’s qualifying “officially” started the China Shanghai Jinshan Open Tuesday with the men’s finaleSaturday when the final two teams compete for the $32,000 first- place prize. Women’squalifying was Wednesday with the Main Draw starting Thursday and ending with the medal matches Sunday. The Beach Volleyball tournament will start the 21st men’s international Beach Volleyball season and the women’s 16th women’s SWATCH-FIVB World Tour campaign.

· The China Shanghai Jinshan Open is the 192nd men’s and 150th women’s SWATCH-FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball event (open, grand slam, Olympic and Goodwill). The first men’s SWATCH-FIVB World Tour event was played February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The first women’s SWATCH-FIVB World Tour event was played August 14-16, 1992 at Almeria, Spain. · A total of 60 men’s and 57 women’s teams from 37 countries have entered the China Shanghai Jinshan Open, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the Ukraine. · The China Shanghai Jinshan Open marks the 10th-straight year that China has hosted the international tour starting in 1998 when Dalian staged the first of three women’s events. · The China Shanghai Jinshan Open also launches the qualifying process for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour schedule will feature 19 events for men and 18 tournaments for the women with 14 double gender stops. The SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in Gstaad will feature $1-millon in prize money while Paris, Stavanger, Berlin and Klagenfurt will host Grand Slam stops where the combined prize money will be $2.4-million for the combined men’s and women’s events. Event sites hosting international Beach Volleyball events for the first-time include Manama, Bahrain (men), Singapore (women), Seoul, Korea (women), Kristiansand, Norway (men women) and Aland, Finland (men and women).
