The screen shot below shows the Tab Bar for the iTunes App: What’s an App An “App” (short for Application) is a computer program that performs a specific task. Think of it as a mini software program. The iPad comes with several built-in apps (already preloaded) such as Calendar, Camera, Contacts, Clock, etc. You can also download apps from the Apps store. There are MANY to choose from, some free and others for purchase, usually at a minimal price. Most Apps have a similar format which lessens the learning curve. Most Apps do not interact with each other; therefore there is less possibility of viruses. There is no file structure on the iPad, which means content is saved within the App. For example, reminders you type in Notes are saved there. Even though an App may be free to download there may be additional content within the App available for purchase. iPad Built in Apps Apps Store Download free apps or purchase apps Store appointments and important dates Calendar Sync with other calendars Take pictures or videos Camera Accesses front and rear cameras Page 7 of 13 What’s an iPad iPad Built in Apps See time in different countries Clock Set an alarm clock or use the stop watch Use as an address book Contacts Can sync with other contacts Use to video chat (with iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad users) Face Time Requires an Internet connection Game Center Play games by yourself or with friends Read e-books (alternative to the Kindle or Nook) iBooks Purchase electronic books Download free or purchase music, movies, TV shows ITunes Store Buy individual song or entire album Mail Read and send email Find locations Maps Get directions Send and receive text messages between iPad, iPhone Messages and iPod Touch users – includes photos and videos Play music or audiobooks Music Create playlists Newsstand Read and download newspapers & magazines Write yourself reminders Notes Store thoughts/ideas Photo Booth Create special effect photos View photos and videos you have taken Photos Create slideshows Listen to or view programs of interest Podcasts Subscribe to receive latest episodes Create to-do lists Reminders Set up reminders Internet browser Safari Apple’s version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome Page 8 of 13 What’s an iPad iPad Built in Apps Used to control iPad appearance & operation Settings First place to check if problems Tips View tips for using iPad View rented or purchased movies Videos Stream videos to larger monitor/TV It is not necessary to close an App. It will hibernate in the background. • Virtual Keyboard Based on Single Finger Recognition
A Virtual Keyboard Implementation Based on Finger Recognition Yang Zhang A thesis submitted to Auckland University of Technology in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Computer and Information Sciences (MCIS) 2016 School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences Abstract A keyboard requires a great deal of resources and is restricted by its physical features. Additionally, discarded keyboards also inevitably contribute to environmental pollution. Consequently, the touch screen is designed to replace the physical keyboard and thus reduce these flaws. However, the internal digital keyboard on the touch screen takes up a substantial amount of space, which causes some content to be covered. Moreover, the touch screen can be dirtied by fingerprints and become worn over time by human fingernails through frequent use. Hence, it is necessary to develop a new type of environment-friendly virtual keyboard with fewer flaws. In this thesis, the author develops a novel type of virtual keyboard that allows users to use fingers to type on a piece of paper at any fixed plane. Finger recognition is based on human skin tone and then the BWMORPH algorithm is utilized to recognize the user’s fingertip. If the user’s fingertip has remained on a key for a long time, the program will regard this key as an input. The experiments in this thesis adopt five kinds of customized paper keyboards on a wall to demonstrate the usability of the proposed virtual keyboard. Typing without touching the keyboard is fulfilled to ignore obstrutions covering the paper keyboard. The experiment results indicate that the overall recognition rate of the proposed virtual keyboard is 94.62%.

Chapter 1 Getting to Know Siri In This Chapter ▶ Seeing what — or rather, who — Siri is ▶ Setting up Siri for your personal use ▶ Exploring different ways to use Siri ▶ Finding out how to get fast and reliable replies ▶ Teaching Siri what to call you ongratulations! You’re now the owner of the most definitive Cguide to Siri on the planet. This easy-to-read For Dummies title will teach you everything you need to know about Siri — and then some. Be prepared to master all of Siri’s amazing features, at your own pace, so you can get a lot more out of your beloved iPhone, iPad (and iPad mini), or iPod touch. But first, a few words about my introduction to Siri, what Siri is exactly, and a bit of history. As a longtime technology reviewer, I firmly believe Siri (pronounced SEAR-ree) is the start of something very special, and it was love at first sight — er, speech. Here I am, sitting in the crowd at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California, on October 4, 2011. The exclusive press event is called “Let’s Talk iPhone,” and like many other journalists and analysts in theCOPYRIGHTED room, I was expecting Apple CEO MATERIAL Tim Cook to take the wraps off the iPhone 5. When the iPhone 4S was initially debuted, you could sense the ini- tial disappointment among the attendees — after all, there were so many rumors leading up to the event that it seemed inevitable that a dramatically new smartphone would be unveiled that day. But that letdown feeling completely vanished the moment Siri was introduced.
