Windows 7 Installation for Mac’s Macintosh installation instructions for Windows 7 Ultimate Although the Vanderbilt Campus Agreement Media refers to an upgrade license, it can be installed as a clean load on a Mac computer using Boot Camp or other virtual machine. Below you will find the steps to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp. You must follow these steps in order for the license to be accepted and registered correctly. *Note: You will need your Mac OS installation DVD and AC Adapter during this installation process. A DVD compatible optical drive is required for installation. 1. Boot computer into the Mac OS. 2. Click on “go” and select “utilities”. Windows 7 Installation for Mac’s 3. Create Boot Camp partition; adjust the desired size allocation and click “partition” to begin (Recommended partition size is >20 GB) *Note: At this point, should multiple partitions already exist on this drive, your computer may ask you to insert your Mac OS factory CD and reformat your machine. Be sure to back up your Hard drive before doing so! Reformating your computer will delete all saved files and return the system to factory defaults. 6. Insert your Windows 7 disk and click on “start installation” 7. Computer will restart and launch the Windows installer Windows 7 Installation for Mac’s *Tip: When rebooting a Macintosh machine, upon hearing the boot up chime, press and hold the OPTION key to select which partition/bootable disk you would like to load. 8. Choose custom (advanced) install option Windows 7 Installation for Mac’s 12. Click on drive options 13. With the boot camp drive highlighted click on “delete” 14. Click “ok” to warning 15. Highlight “unallocated” space and click next. This will continue Windows Installer. 16. Computer will reboot and launches Windows setup. Follow instructions. 17. When asked to type product key‐‐‐DO NOT ENTER PRODUCT KEY at this point, simply click next. 18. Continue to follow Windows setup instructions 19. When setup is complete, machine will boot up into Windows 20. From Windows desktop, go to “Computer” via start circle 21. Double click on Windows 7 icon which opens the DVD in Windows Explorer. Double click setup which launches Windows 7 installer again. Click “yes” to warning box. 22. Click on “install now” tab 23. Select to get important updates if internet access will allow 24. Agree to license terms‐‐‐click next Windows 7 Installation for Mac’s 25. Click on Upgrade Option‐‐‐this re‐launches the Windows installer, proceed through Windows installation 26. At Product Key prompt‐‐‐ENTER PRODUCT KEY at this point, do not include dashes. Before hitting “next”, be sure to check box that automatically activates windows. Click next. 27. Click on “use recommended settings” 28. Windows will re‐launch 29. Eject Windows installation DVD by opening Computer and highlighting optical drive and selecting eject. 30. Insert Mac OS 10 install disk into drive. This will automatically launch the Boot Camp Driver Installer 31. Run setup.exe 32. Follow installation cues. When install completes click “finish” and restart machine. 33. To select which OS at boot, power on computer and hold Option key until Mac and PC icons appear on screen 34. You have successfully installed and configured windows. Please be sure to install all Windows updates. Connect your Monitor directly into your Macintosh and reboot holding the OPTION key to resolve.
