Summary for Limbury These series of reports provide a summary of the latest available information on the demographic and socio-economic make-up of the nineteen wards in Luton. It looks at the population structure and provides information on the economic, housing and educational achievement of each ward. What’s new – April 2019: Perceptions survey update (i) Limbury’s view of Luton: nine per cent feel the image of Luton has improved over the last year 31 per cent feel positive about the future of this town Residents top rated aspects: 1. Schools (84%) 2. Childcare for young children and Further / Higher Education (66%) 3. Arts and cultural events and facilities (64%) November 2018: Housing there are 74,293 households in Luton of which 2,981 (four per cent) are in Limbury over half (53.7 per cent) of household space for Limbury is semi-detached properties followed by 25.1 per cent terraced (ii) the most common tenure in Limbury is households owned with a mortgage with 37.9 per cent followed closely by properties owned outright with 36.8 per cent (iii) Limbury has a low level of social rented households with 8.2 per cent (iv) the average three bedroom house in Luton in October 2018, cost £280,000 compared to £278,000 in Limbury (v) Limbury has nine per cent overcrowding, compared to Luton’s average of 15.4 per cent (vi) August 2018: Health Limbury had a higher than average level of low birth weights over a five year period with 11.2 per cent, Luton’s average was 9.1 per cent (vii) in the 2011 census, the percentage of people who self-reported bad or very bad health in Limbury was 4.2 per cent (as a percentage of the total number of people who responded to this question) (viii) obesity levels in Limbury for reception aged children was lower than Luton’s average, however older children and adults were higher; with 25.2 per cent of children in year six and 28 per cent of adults being obese (ix) the average life expectancy in Luton for females is 82.4 and male 78.5; Limbury was higher with 83.4 and 80.8 respectively (x) the highest number of deaths recorded in Limbury was cancer, followed closely by circulatory disease (xi) April 2018: Demographics (xii) Limbury ward is located in North of the town the population (based on mid-year estimate 2016) is just over 8000, accounting for 3.7 per cent of Luton’s total population Limbury has a higher proportion of residents aged over 45 in comparison to the rest of Luton; those aged 75 and over are almost double of Luton’s average 3 of 26 Limbury ward profile v4.0 – April 2019 Population (xiii) the white (British, Scottish, N. Irish, Welsh) population of Limbury consists of 56 per cent, compared to 44.6 per cent in Luton the highest proportion in the ethnic minority category is Irish and Caribbean Deprivation (xiv) the 2015 indices of multiple deprivation showed that the half of Limbury is in the top 20 to 50 per cent least deprived and the other half in the 20 to 50 per cent most deprived nationally the percentage of children living in poverty after housing costs was 20 to 25 per cent Economic activity Limbury has a slightly higher than average economically active individuals than that of Luton (xv) it has a higher rate of associate professional, administrative and skilled trades - accounting for over half of the occupation levels in January 2018, there was 70 benefit claimant’s in Limbury equating to a rate of 1.4 per cent (xvi) Crime (xvii) during 2016 and 2017, Limbury had one of the lowest number of burglaries in the town there were eight incidents hate crime and 269 ASB reports fly tipping was also fairly low in comparison to the rest of the town with 111 incidents Perceptions of Luton (xviii) From wave 2 of the perceptions survey, it was identified that: 76 per cent of Limbury’s population were satisfied with Luton as a place to live only around a fifth felt Luton’s image had improved in the past 12 months 83 per cent of the residents agreed that their local area was a place where different backgrounds got on well together only 31 per cent of respondents felt they could influence decisions affecting their local area Education (xix) Pupils achieving a good level of development in Limbury for early years ranked the highest in
