Bedsbuzz Welcome from SPRING 2010 Debbie I Hope You All Celebrated Centenary World Thinking Day in a Memorable Way BedsBuzz Welcome from SPRING 2010 Debbie I hope you all celebrated Centenary World Thinking Day in a memorable way. I know lots of people enjoyed One World One Beat. The Anglia event at Stevenage was organised by Emma Wright an adult Leader from Bedfordshire, well done to her. Others attended the World Thinking Day Service at Westminster Abbey and lots more had local Division, District and Unit Celebrations. Please send in all your Thinking Day stories and photo's for Bedsbuzz. Best wishes Debbie Docherty Bedfordshire County Commissioner Gill Lake County International Adviser Golden Girls of Guiding The Golden Girls were awarded their 50 year brooches at our Annual Review and warmly thanked by the County Commissioner for all their commitment and dedication to Girlguiding in the county. Rhona was unable to attend, but requested that her award be presented by Marion Prior on a visit to the Crystal Palace Maze, the place where Guiding A golden team with first started. I have also put forward several girls for Regional Opportunities and they have gone to places such as India, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Korea and Slovakia to name a few. We have two girls going to the next World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. Any Guider considering taking a group abroad should contact me and I will be as helpful as I can. As part of the run up to the Centenary, Brownies took part in the Changing the World Challenge. A challenge in which Girlguiding UK supported 19 charities both in the UK and abroad and each Unit in the Country was encouraged to support one or more of them by raising funds and awareness of their chosen charity. After the huge County Centenary Launch Party in September attended by over 2500 girls and leaders, Biggleswade and District Girlguiding will be continuing celebrations with events throughout 2010, including a Gang Show, together with Biggleswade Scout Group to be held on 20 March 2010 at Stratton Upper School. • Parish Profile of St. Augustine of Canterbury Luton
Sharing God’s Love with you! Parish Profile of St. Augustine of Canterbury Luton A parish in Luton Deanery, St Albans Diocese staugustineslimbury.org – Parish Profile We are St. Augustine’s Church in Limbury, North Luton, and in recent years we have adopted the mission statement Sharing God’s Love with you! What does this mean to us? It means offering a warm welcome to everyone who enters our doors, sharing in worship in the moderate catholic tradition, which is enhanced by a high standard of music. Others support outreach activities such as our Open Days or by delivering a seasonal magazine to every household in the parish. Many members share it through supporting Messy Church, with the joy and fellowship reaching many families each month. Others see Sharing God’s Love in action through the prayer chain, or pastoral visitors reaching out to the troubled, sick and bereaved, or maybe the fortnightly coffee mornings aimed at reducing isolation and building relationships. We have an active branch of the Mothers’ Union and also a wide variety of groups attended by church members and the wider community. We enjoy widespread support for fundraising activities, with last year over £5,000 supplementing regular giving for church funds, over 100 shoe-boxes sent to Operation Christmas Child, the Food Bank supported weekly, as well as collections for nominated charities through the year. We have also started looking at how we can address the needs of people in poverty through a discretionary Parish fund. Much to celebrate, and yet… We know we need help in a number of areas: We need to explore more ways of Going Deeper into God – providing more prayer/bible study opportunities for more people.
