Report Launch - Program Friday 13 April 2018 from 7.15am to 9.00am Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom 99 Adelaide Terrace Perth #FutureOfWork @BankwestCurtin About the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre

The Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre is an independent economic and social research organisation located within the Curtin Business School at Curtin University.

The Centre was established in 2012 through the generous support of Bankwest, a division of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The Centre’s core mission is to deliver high quality, accessible research that enhances our understanding of key economic and social issues that contribute to the wellbeing of West Australian families, businesses and communities.

The Centre’s research and engagement activities are designed to influence economic and social policy debates in state and Federal Parliament, regional and national media, and the wider Australian community. Through high quality, evidence-based research and analysis, our research outcomes inform policy makers and commentators of the economic challenges to achieving sustainable and equitable growth and prosperity both in and nationally.

The Centre capitalises on Curtin University’s reputation for excellence in economic modelling, forecasting, public policy research, trade and industrial economics and spatial sciences. Centre researchers have specific expertise in economic forecasting, quantitative modelling and economic and social policy evaluation. Program

Welcome from Alan Duncan

t is my pleasure to welcome you to the launch of the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre’s report, The Future of Work in Australia: Preparing Ifor tomorrow’s world. As the Australian labour market undergoes rapid change, new jobs and markets are created and new ways of doing business begin to emerge. This BCEC Focus on the States report examines the way in which the organisation of work is changing, changes in the quality of jobs over time, how technology is impacting the labour market and what can do to prepare for the future. Importantly, it highlights the nature of and growing rate of precarious employment across Australian workplaces through a unique index that captures job insecurity, lack of control over work and poor working conditions. We hope the findings delivered today will generate positive and productive discussion, and inform policy debates on the future workplaces and workforces in Australia. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our esteemed presenters for their contributions to this morning’s discussion: Hon. David Kelly MLA, Innovation and ICT; Minister for Water; Fisheries; Forestry; Science; Ms Anne Driscoll, Director General, Department of Training and Workforce Development; Mr Andy Weir, Executive General Manager, Enterprise Services & Chief Information Officer, Bankwest; Ms Rhonda Brighton- Hall, Founder and CEO, mwah. Making Work Absolutely Human and Scott Guerini, Year 7 Student and Telethon Ambassador. As always, I thank you for your ongoing support of the Centre and hope you enjoy breakfast and the chance to network with guests in attendance today.

Professor Alan Duncan Director Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre Curtin Business School, Curtin University
