  • Geography and Politics: Maps of “Palestine” As a Means to Instill Fundamentally Negative Messages Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center at the Center for Special Studies (C.S.S) Special Information Bulletin November 2003 Geography and Politics: Maps of “Palestine” as a means to instill fundamentally negative messages regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict The maps of “Palestine” distributed by the Palestinian Authority and other PA elements are an important and tangible method of instilling fundamentally negative messages relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These include ignoring the existence of the State of Israel, and denying the bond between the Jewish people and the Holyland; the obligation to fulfill the Palestinian “right of return”; the continuation of the “armed struggle” for the “liberation” of all of “Palestine”, and perpetuating hatred of the State of Israel. Hence, significant changes in the maps of “Palestine” would be an important indicator of a real willingness by the Palestinians to recognize the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state and to arrive at a negotiated settlement based on the existence of two states, Israel and Palestine, as envisaged by President George W. Bush in the Road Map. The map features “Palestine” as distinctly Arab-Islamic, an integral part of the Arab world, and situated next to Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. Israel is not mentioned. (Source: “Natioal Education” 2 nd grade textbook, page 16, 2001-2002). Abstract The aim of this document is to sum up the findings regarding maps of “Palestine” (and the Middle East) circulated in the Palestinian areas by the PA and its institutions, and by other organizations (including research institutions, charities, political figures, and terrorist organizations such as Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad).

The National Left (First Draft) by Shmu'el Hasfari and Eldad Yaniv Open Source Center OSC Summary: A self-published book by Israeli playwright Shmu'el Hasfari and political activist Eldad Yaniv entitled "The National Left (First Draft)" bemoans the death of Israel's political left. http://www.fas.org/irp/dni/osc/israel-left.pdf Statement by the Authors The contents of this publication are the responsibility of the authors, who also personally bore the modest printing costs. Any part of the material in this book may be photocopied and recorded. It is recommended that it should be kept in a data-storage system, transmitted, or recorded in any form or by any electronic, optical, mechanical means, or otherwise. Any form of commercial use of the material in this book is permitted without the explicit written permission of the authors. 1. The Left The Left died the day the Six-Day War ended. With the dawn of the Israeli empire, the Left's sun sank and the Small [pun on Smol, the Hebrew word for Left] was born. The Small is a mark of Cain, a disparaging term for a collaborator, a lover of Arabs, a hater of Israel, a Jew who turns against his own people, not a patriot. The Small-ists eat pork on Yom Kippur, gobble shrimps during the week, drink espresso whenever possible, and are homos, kapos, artsy-fartsy snobs, and what not. Until 1967, the Left actually managed some impressive deeds -- it took control of the land, ploughed, sowed, harvested, founded the state, built the army, built its industry from scratch, fought Arabs, settled the land, built the nuclear reactor, brought millions of Jews here and absorbed them, and set up kibbutzim, moshavim, and agriculture.

The progress of the study carried out so far is presented in this progress report. The author and the staff of the Department of Marine Geology and Coastal Processes wish to express our appreciation and thank Mr. Bertram Cohn of North American Friends of IOLR for the funding support provided. RESULTS Main results obtained so far are presented in tables and graphs. They show assessments of the maximum runup of the waves during extreme storm conditions, of the extreme waves and sea levels for return average periods of up to 100 years, results of erosion-accretion balance for the study coast during 1997-2004 period, examples of differential maps of the beach and cliff at Apolonia and near Marina Herzliya between 2002 and 2003 as well as the waterline position changes between 1997 and 2004, and examples of the numerical wave and sedimentological modeling simulations and their outcomes for the study sector – the central sector of the Mediterranean coast of Israel. PRELIMINARY CONCLUSIONS The work presented in this report is an ongoing study on the coastal erosion at the beach and coastal cliff of a typical coastal sector at the Mediterranean coast of Israel.

The 65+ Population in Israel 2018 Facts and Figures 2018 This document presents basic data about the elderly population in Israel, with regard to demography, education, economics, social life, health, and services for the elderly. The data includes updated information and indicates notable changes that have occurred over the years. Unless otherwise indicated, the term "elderly" refers to people age 65+, the data are for the year 2015 and they are from The 65+ Population in Israel: Statistical Abstract 2016 (eds. Jenny Brodsky, Yitschak Shnoor and Shmuel Be'er). The Abstract is based on an analysis of data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the National Insurance Institute (NII), the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and Services. 2 Demography | The Elderly Today and in the Future In 2015, the total population of Israel was 8.46 million, of whom 939,000 – 11% – were elderly. One in four households in the country included an elderly person age 65 or more. Elderly Arabs (Muslims, Christians and Druze) constituted 8% of the elderly population. The Arab population is relatively young and only 4% of the Arab population were elderly, compared with 13% of the population of Jews and others (Jews, non-Arab Christians, and people with no religious classification). The CBS population projections expect the number of elderly in Israel to reach 1.66 million in 2035. This means that the population of elderly will increase by 77% between 2015 and 2035, and the growth rate will be 2.2 times faster than that of the general population during this time.

In The Land of Oz In The Land of Israel An Argument on Life and Death (A) A Tale of Love and Darkness Home - Jerusalem - The Pharmacy Home - Vilna Remaking the Home after the Mother’s Death The Same Sea Jews and Words 1 | P a g e In The Land of Israel An Argument on Life and Death (A) Yisrael Harel, chairman of the Council of Jewish Settlements in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, and editor of its newspaper, Nekuda, is a journalist by profession, a graduate of Bnai Akiva, the religious youth movement, and one of the central activists in Gush Emunim. He arrived in Ofra with his family a year and a half after the founders. Yisrael is an agreeable man, reflective, soft-spoken, a receptive listener. In the last few months, he says, since the evacuation of Yammit and the war in Lebanon, positions have polarized. The faith of those who believe in the path of Gush Emunim has been strengthened. The conviction of its opponents has deepened. Gush Emunim, Yisrael maintains, was born out of a deep residue of inferiority feelings among religious Zionist youth, accumulated over many years, toward the socialist Zionist movement’s “Land of Israel.” The nationalist religious camp used to be essentially an imitation of the Labor movement. It was only with the first breach by the students from Rabbi Kook’s yeshiva in Jerusalem that a new style, a new outlook, even a new fashion were born. And the frustrated spiritual energies that had been dwarfed by the kibbutzim and the leftist youth movements found independent channels only after the Six-Day War, “when portions of the Land of Israel were liberated.” Since the Six-Day War, if not before then, Yisrael Harel posits, an “eclipse” has descended on the Labor movement: it has been gnawed at by vacillation, doubt, weakness, perhaps by its own feelings of guilt at the victory, and, in short, the spirit expressed in The Seventh Day: Soldiers Talk, which was published immediately after that war.
