Celebrate Arbor Day with a long-standing OC tradition! Second grade classes from OC Elementary School present skits, poems, songs and artwork to show the importance of trees. For over 25 years, the OC Beautification Committee has partnered with the students to bring this program to the community. Perhaps the highlight of the Arbor Day celebration is when students assist the Mayor and City Council in planting a tree at Northside Park as part of the OC Beautification Committee’s TreeMendous Program. The celebration starts in the community room with light refreshments and then moves outdoors (weather permitting). The celebration kicks off with the presentation of the flags by the American Legion Color Guard. During the festivities, the Mayor is presented with the National Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA Award and the Maryland P.L.A.N.T. Award. Following the tree planting, students enjoy demonstrations by the OC Police Department’s mounted police and K-9 units. All citizens and visitors are invited to join in the ceremonies. POLICE DEPT.
