Well, there’s great news. The College of Lake County offers many options to help you pay for college. First, there is a range of payment options, including an installment payment plan, to help you manage your payments. And there are many kinds of financial aid that can help you pay for educational expenses— tuition, books, transportation and more. Financial aid comes in many forms (with different screening criteria), so there’s a good chance you’re eligible for an award, even if you think you aren’t. Indeed, one in four College of Lake County (CLC) students received some type of financial aid during the 2011-2012 academic year. Wouldn’t it be great to spend less time worrying about how to pay for college—and more time making progress toward your goals? If your answer is “yes,” this booklet is for you.

3 Paying your CLC tuition

Payment CLC offers lots of options for meeting your tuition and fee responsibilities:

You can access the links needed to pay your tuition and fees from the myStudentCenter main page. (You can also get to the links by clicking “Make a Payment” when you are in the “Add” or “Drop” pages. This link will bring you to the myStudentCenter page.)

Click on Account Inquiry . This link is in the Finances area on the myStudentCenter main page. This step is necessary to ensure that your charges are up to date and accurate. After clicking this link, you will see your charges displayed.

11 How do I apply for Financial Aid?

Remember, don’t ever assume that you won’t qualify. Need-based forms of financial aid consider many factors, among them, family income and assets, college costs and whether you have brothers or sisters also in college. In addition, some forms of financial aid aren’t based on need at all. Until you apply, you won’t know if you are eligible. Federal and state aid application processes start with the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid, available at www.fafsa.gov. However, some scholarship opportunities are available for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.

In addition to offering federal and state financial aid programs, CLC also awards scholarships funded by the CLC Foundation. These scholarships address the needs of many different kinds of students and include eight major award programs and nearly 100 individual scholarships. The Foundation’s major award programs are open to all students, regardless of legal status. The Foundation also offers individual scholarships that have separate requirements based on donor specifications, some of which are open to undocumented and foreign students. During the 2011-2012 academic year, the CLC Foundation awarded scholarships to over 460 students.

• Honors —for academically gifted students. Students must be accepted by the Honors Program. New students must have a 3.5 GPA. Continuing students should have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. • Returning to Education —for students over age 24 who have renewed their commitment to education after a one-year period of non-enrollment.
