Christian Yelich recorded his 50th multi-hit game, tying his career high (also, 2014 and 2016). Yelich also scored his 100th run in the fifth. With Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton (123), and Dee Gordon (114), Miami had three players with 100-plus runs for the second time in Club history (also, 2006; Hanley Ramirez-119, Miguel Cabrera-112, Dan Uggla-105). Ozuna hit his 37th home run, a solo shot in the seventh. His 37 home runs this season tied Stanton (2012 & 2014) for the third-highest single-season total in Club history. Stanton finished the year with an MLB-best 132 RBI, becoming the first Marlin ever to lead the Majors in RBI. Ozuna (124) finished third, making the Marlins the first team since the 2005 Red Sox (David Ortiz & Manny Ramirez) to have two players finish in the top three in MLB in RBI, and the first NL teammates since George Foster and Joe Morgan (1-2, respectively) to do so since 1976. - Elias Braves Notes: Atlanta completed its 36th comeback win, and won the season series against Miami 11-8. Dansby Swanson hit a go-ahead single in the seventh, his 13th go-ahead and eighth game-winning RBI. Adonis Garcia hit a three-run home run in the seventh, marking his second career pinch-hit homer (last, Sept. 12, 2015 vs. NYM). Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run homer in the third, his career-best 19th, and extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games (.424/14x33). Lane Adams singled in the seventh to extend his career-high hitting streak to six games (.318/7x22). Freddie Freeman finished the season with a .403 on base percentage, becoming the third qualifying Braves player since 1966 to post an OBP of .400 or better in consecutive seasons, and first since Chipper Jones achieved the feat from 1998-2003 and 2007-2008. Max Fried was the first Braves rookie to start the final game of the season since Matt Wisler in 2015 and the first rookie left-hander since Damian Moss in 2001. Duvall became the first player to record two three-homer games while wearing a Braves uniform, and his efforts helped Atlanta set a National League record for runs in a game in the modern era (since 1900). “That was pretty amazing to be a part of,” Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said. “I’ve never seen an offense click like that.” The Braves fell just one run short of tying the modern record for runs scored in a game, set when the Rangers defeated the Orioles, 30-3, in the first game of a doubleheader on Aug. 22, 2007, at Camden Yards. Dating back to 1900, no NL club had scored more than 28 runs in a game. The Braves’ franchise record was 23, a mark tallied during the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Sept. 2, 1957. Ronald Acuña Jr. contributed to his three-hit night with a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth. But it was his bases-loaded double in the sixth inning that gave the Braves a new franchise record for runs in a single game, opening a 25-8 lead. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta became the first MLB team to score at least 22 runs through the first five innings since the Blue Jays (24 runs) in a win over the Orioles on June 26, 1978.

When the gates opened the stadium began filling to 33% capacity, our eyes drawn to “44” etched in center field as “real” fans replaced the cardboard cutouts of 2020. We eagerly anticipated a much needed in-person baseball experience. It was high time for a rematch of the opening series in Philly, which had not gone well for our guys. Charlie Morton vs. Zack Wheeler rebooted. Braves fans were pumped! What would Opening Night at a Braves game be without evoking memories of the franchise’s 50+ years relationship with the city of Atlanta and the South? A moving pregame ceremony paid tribute to the passing of Bill Bartholomay, Phil Niekro, Don Sutton, and Hank Aaron, highlighting their legendary contributions to the team, the game of baseball, and our community. Fan Club member Wayne Coleman (pictured bottom right) played “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes. Timothy Miller sang the “National Anthem.” Jets flew over. Fans stood and cheered. The pitching duel between Morton and Wheeler held until Ronald Acuna launched a 456 foot, two-run blast and the Braves scored three in the bottom of the 5th. The red-hot Acuna ending up going 4 for 5 and made a sensational run-saving catch in the 6th.

Andruw Jones, 1996-2007 Key fact: Stands with Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays and Ichiro Suzuki as the only outfielders to win 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards The 60.9 bWAR (Baseball Reference’s WAR model) Andruw Jones produced during his 11 full seasons (1997-2007) with Atlanta ranked third in the Majors, trailing only Alex Rodriguez (85.7) and Barry Bonds (79.2). Chipper Jones was fourth at 58.9. Within this span, the Braves center fielder led all Major Leaguers with a 26.7 Defensive bWAR. Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez ranked second with 16.5. The next closest outfielder was Mike Cameron (9.6). Along with establishing himself as one of the greatest defensive outfielders baseball has ever seen during his time with Atlanta, Jones became one of the best power hitters in Braves history. He ranks fourth in franchise history with 368 homers, and he set the club’s single-season record with 51 homers in 2005.
