Because TCDSB schools—students, staff and parents—played a significant role in World Youth Day 2002, each schools is receiving one complimentary copy of the book. Additional copies of the book can be purchased for a cost of $100. The book is a non-profit project. Net proceeds from the sales will go to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. FROM THE BOARD A MONTHLY SUMMARY OF BOARD HIGHLIGHTS AND DECISIONS

October 2003

Revised policy covering suspension/expulsion appeals The Board has approved a revised policy S.S.01 Hearing Process for Suspension and Expulsion. The new policy will be published on the Board’s website at www.tcdsb.org (see Policies).

Credit courses outside Canada approved The Board approved Continuing Education March Break Credit Courses Outside Canada. Italian, Classical Civilization and World History credit courses in Italy will be offered during the March Break 2004 at no cost to the Board. Overseas credit courses have been offered by the Board since 1991.

Accessibility Plan approved The Board has developed its first annual Accessibility Plan in accordance with guidelines set out through the Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2001. The major focus of this year’s plan is on the analysis of the current status of accessibility and barrier identification and to set priorities for barrier removal for the coming years. The Accessibility Working Group will also work to raise awareness around the need for accessibility planning in the school and work environment.

Transportation boundaries adjusted for two east-end schools The Board has approved an adjustment to transportation boundaries for students in the pocketed area south of Highway #401, currently serving the St. Brendan’s community, to St. Dominic Savio Catholic School. This change is aimed at beginning the process of right-sizing the two schools.

System Priorities 2003-2004 update The Toronto Catholic District School Board is committed to achieving excellence through planning and resource allocation based on the identification and articulation of system priorities. System priorities provide a focus for the many and varied activities for the Board. The Board of Trustees received a report, which identifies the implementation to date in terms of the 2003 Board priorities and the progress with regard to meeting objectives and plans established within the context of Board and system priorities.

External auditors appointed The board has approved KPMG as the Board’s external auditors for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2003.

Tenders awarded for new school construction The Board has approved contractors for the construction of new school facilities for Immaculate Conception Catholic School and Senator O’Connor Catholic Secondary School in North York.

Natural gas purchase The Board has approved a new one-year fixed price contract with WPS Energy Services of Canada Corp. for the purchase of natural gas beginning November 1, 2003, to complete the Board’s heating gas requirements.

Monthly budget reports The Board’s monthly budget reports for the period ending September 30th, are available on the Board’s website at http://www.tcdsb.org/budget%20and%20finance/default.htm#Monthly.

If you have taken additional courses during the summer or are in the process of taking additional courses this school year and will be completed within this school year, and are also in the process of obtaining an evaluation from QECO, please read carefully the following instructions as to how to apply for a salary adjustment.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Please print and complete TWO (2) copies of the attached category upgrading form;

2. Please send ONE (1) copy of the category upgrading form via your school courier, regular mail, or FAX to Human Resources, Attention: Elementary Teachers FAX (416) 512-3047 or Secondary Teachers FAX (416) 512-3048.

3. Retain ONE (1) copy of the category upgrading form for your files, when you have received the Statement of Evaluation from Q.E.C.O. and the explanatory letter, please send copies of these documents together with the category upgrading form via your school courier, regular mail, or FAX to Human Resources, Attention: Elementary Teachers FAX (416) 512-3047 or Secondary Teachers FAX (416) 512-3048.

Note: Please read carefully the deadline dates on the attached category upgrading form.

The category upgrading form must be received in Human Resources no later than November 30, 2003 in order to receive a retroactive adjustment to your salary to September 1, 2003. To qualify for a retroactive salary adjustment, the QECO statements must be received in Human Resources no later than March 1, 2004. EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of one year work of related experience
