RE: Concept Development Application for alterations and additions to the InterContinental Hotel and Transport House (SSD 7693)

Reference is made to your correspondence dated 4 May 2018 regarding Mulpha's Response to Submissions for Stage 1 SSD application for alterations and additions to InterContinental Hotel and Transport House.

This Stage 1 SSD application is seeking approval for an overall form and massing building envelope, with proposed roof−top addition to rear of Transport House and refurbishment of the 1980s hotel tower with new façade. If approved, the Stage 2 SSD application would include detailed façade design and materiality of the roof−top addition and the hotel.

The proposed roof−top addition to rear of Transport House is proposed to be glazed for a new grand ballroom, including new plant and pool at levels 8 to 9 and grand ballroom at levels 10 to 12. The supporting documents include the following statement that/the new glazed volume will float above the masonry façade of Transport House (which remains untouched)‘.

As the 5 storey addition would be constructed to the southern boundary of the Justice and Police Museum the final design and materially has the potential to adversely impact the setting of the Justice and Police Museum.

Therefore, should the Stage 1 SSD Application be granted approval, Sydney Living Museums requests that the following condition of consent forms part of the Stage 1 approval:

During the preparation of the Stage 2 SSD Application the applicant must consult with the Sydney Living Museums, the owner of the Justice and Police Museum at 4 Phillip St, Sydney regarding the materiality and design details of the proposed addition above the roof−top of Transport House.

Should you have any questions, please contact Michael Ellis, Head of Heritage via email at [email protected] or on 8239 2479.

Yours sincerely
