Everyone recognizes the truth of good proverbs, and so they endure from generation to generation. The Russians have a surprisingly bold one that fits this Sunday's Gospel: "Bread is the beginning of everything." that it was too late for bread-too late for life itself. This great prophet was at the end of his rope and endurance. Then, not one, but two angels visit him. One offers food and drink. The other gives startling directions. For , this food from the angels is bread for his journey. On the strength of the heaven-sent gift of food, he walks to the mountain of God. In today's Gospel, Jesus offers himself, not just as bread for the journey, but as bread for life itself. He gives his flesh as life for the world. "I am the bread of life" (John 6:48). He is the beginning of everything. SHRINE Tour to the Rhoda Wise Home with The St. Raphael Wednesday, September 16, 2015 Here is your chance to join your friends and acquaintances from St. Raphael Parish to visit the actual home of Mrs. Rhoda Wise, who has been a tremendous spiritual inspiration even now, sixty years after her passing. Mrs. Wise suffered immense injuries during the Great Depression and was sent home to die. She had such great faith that she received 20 visits from Our Lord and also St. Therese to comfort her during her recovery. She has been associ- ated with many miraculous healings (including her own and that of ). Mrs. Wise is being studied for possible and would become only the 4th American-born Saint. After our shrine visit, we’ll have lunch (included) at the elegant Woman’s Club of Canton, before we have our tour of St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Canton. St. Peter’s is a beautiful, classic church and where Mrs. Wise worshipped dur- ing her lifetime. We’ll complete our day sightseeing at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman, Ohio, another point of great inspiration in Ohio. Trip package price is $65. For reservations and for more information, please call FRANK O’CONNOR 440.895.0964 Payment deadline is August 16, 2015 Forms available in Good Shepherd Square (Gathering Area) and Parish Office Dementia/Alzheimer’s Caregivers Seminar. Learn more about the disease, its progression, the stages and what to expect at each phase. Gain the tools necessary on “what to do and how to do it.” The four part seminar will empower the caregiver of a loved one with Alzheimer’s to have the knowledge and the tools that are required to be a savvy care- giver. The seminar will have instruction on how to get your affairs in order for financial, legal, and medical records management. At the conclusion, you will have formed a strategy on how to move forward; you will be organized and supported. You don’t have to do this alone. We are here to help and it starts by attending these four seminars. To regis- ter, contact facilitator Mr. Roy Poillon, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus at (440) 385-7605. Seminar Dates: September 9, 16, 23, 30 Time: 6:30 PM Location: St. Raphael Parish (School Library) COME WALK WITH ME«” Are you suffering from Alzheimer’s? Do you have a loved one who has been diagnosed with Alzhei- mer’s? Have you lost someone you love to the disease? Are you a caregiver for someone with Alzhei- mer’s? Do you want to join us in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease? The annual WESTSIDE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S will be taking place Sunday, September 19th at ALL-PRO STADIUM in Avon. The Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. If you are unavailable to Walk with us, but want to contribute, please consider making a donation at above website. Together, we can make a difference! PLEASE HELP US UPDATE OUR PARISH RECORDS Are you over 21? If so, you should now register on your own as an adult of Saint Raphael Parish. Were you raised in Saint Raphael Parish and now have your own family? Have you registered on your own as your own household? Many adults who grew up here are still in our present records as living with their parents (we recently found 30, 40 and 50 year-olds listed as members of their parent’s household.) Do you have adult children who have moved out of Saint Raphael Parish? Please let us know. We can check to see if they are still listed as members here and remove them from our database.
