Feet Up Friday – There aren’t enough bobbleheads in the world Christine: We’ve just had two back-to-back races and now we’ve got back-to-back Feet up Friday’s, this almost never happens anymore. Mr C: It feels like we are underway, the season is go and it’s been non-stop from the first green flag of the year. This is the first break we’ve had, a little bit of downtime for Sidepodcast, but still we are recording a new show for you, that’s how hard we are working this year. Christine: But after two races in a row we’ve got three weeks off now and then there’s another two races and then there’s another three weeks off, it’s just weird scheduling this calendar. Mr C: It’s a crazy calendar, but it makes sense for the people who have to endure it. If you are a Formula 1 team who has to pay personnel to go off overseas, back-to-back races makes a lot of sense. You can cram in a lot of action, you can cram in a lot of racing in a fortnight, and then you can get back to base and save yourself a lot of money and in these troubled economic times, that is essential, so you can’t hold in against… you cannot hold the calendar against the people who have to go out there and live it. Christine: No. And having three weeks off gives us plenty of time to ponder everything that happened in Malaysia because my goodness that was a controversial race. -

F1 Advent Calendar 2010 (Day 16) – Magnanimity This is Day 16 of the F1 Advent Calendar 2010, brought to you by Sidepodcast. Welcome along! ThanKs for joining me as we looK bacK at the year gone by, picKing out Key moments for a short episode each day. To- day we're looKing at the German Grand Prix, so you can probably guess what this is about. Day 16 - Magna- nimity. The German race weeKend was a big event for a good deal of the F1 paddocK. Michael Schumacher was making his return for his home race, along with five other German drivers. The Mercedes team were also set to enjoy their home weeKend, and Ferrari have long been popular in Germany as well. Hamilton was leading the championship after a good showing at Silverstone, whilst Red Bull were still deal- ing with some unsettled drivers. Throw in some changeable conditions, and you have the recipe for a fasci- nating weeKend. Sebastian Vettel once again tooK a storming pole position, just two thousandths of a second quicKer than second place Fernando Alonso, whilst Felipe Massa slipped into third. At the start of the race, Vettel and Alonso distracted each other, and let Massa scamper past them to take control of the race. Toro Rosso suffered the indignity of their drivers crashing into each other, whilst Force India had some ma- jor pit stop failures. They were expecting Liuzzi in the pitlane, but Sutil came in first, so the wrong tyres went on the wrong car. This is against regulations, and they had to bring the car bacK in to correct the tyre situation. -

I think we had really good pace… Q1 I ran wide a bit wide at Turn Three and lost about four tenths there. And then after that I had really good pace. The penultimate lap was a very good lap but unfortunately it was taken away. I touched the kerb but it pulled me further. It didn't feel like I was going to be running wide but the car bottomed and kind of bounced just outside the line. A lot of pressure for that last lap. I was just sitting in the garage and I knew that I couldn't let the guys down as on the first lap I had. -

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Report
COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE 20141123 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX RACE REPORT Daniel Ricciardo’s storming performance helped him recover from a pitlane start and end his impressive first season at Infiniti Red Bull Racing with a fourth place finish in today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel couldn’t quite match his teammate’s heroics en route to eighth, while Scuderia Toro Rosso’s JeanEric Vergne just missed out on the points in 12th. Romain Grosjean fought back from grid and drivethrough penalties to finish 13th for Lotus F1 Team, and Caterham F1 Team’s Will Stevens enjoyed a solid first Formula 1 appearance by coming home 17th. Key race points: Abu Dhabi’s unique late evening start time provided a stunning backdrop to the world championship decider and also threw up a variety of tyre strategies as the track cooled throughout the evening. Starting from the pitlane proved no hindrance to the Red Bull pair who diligently picked their way through the midfield during the opening stint on prime tyres. Ricciardo had the best of the traffic and was up to fifth when he pitted for the first time on lap 28. Another fast and consistent stint saw him running third when he stopped for the final time to switch to the option tyres with just eight laps remaining, before finishing one place higher than where he originally qualified. Vettel was also able to charge through on the same strategy but could only finish eighth despite picking off both Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg over the final 10 laps. -

Lewis Hamilton Lewis Hamilton Is the Most Successful British Racing Driver in History
Lewis Hamilton Lewis Hamilton is the most successful British racing driver in history. He was also the first black racing driver in Formula One (F1). His Early Life Lewis Hamilton was born on 7th January 1985. His father is black British and his mother is white British. Lewis’s father bought him a radio-controlled car when he was six. By eight years old, Lewis was winning go-kart races. At age ten, he met the boss of the McLaren F1 team and said to him, ‘One day, I want to be racing your cars’. When he was fifteen, Lewis became the Karting World Number One. Formula One In 2006, at age 21, Hamilton joined the McLaren team and F1. His first race was in Australia and he finished third. On 6th July 2008, he won the British Grand Prix. Later that year, he became the F1 World Champion. He was the first ever black driver to win a Formula One championship. In 2013, he moved to Mercedes to partner with Nico Rosberg, who used to drive go-karts as well. In 2017, Hamilton became the most successful British F1 driver in history after winning his 4th championship. He is still racing in 2019. Did You Know...? We’re back at a street track this weekend. You took pole position in Monaco a couple of races ago -- how confident are you of a repeat here? Kimi RÄIKKÖNEN: Unfortunately it doesn't give you any guarantees. It’s in the past, and a completely different circuit. Not really any similarities than Monaco, but nevertheless I think we have a good car everywhere. We'll see how it goes, we can only give our best. Hopefully we’ll be at the front again; we’ll see what happens. Q: Pirelli are turning up this weekend with slightly harder tyre compounds than in Monaco. How do you think that’s going to affect the battle between Ferrari and Mercedes? KR: I don’t know. It’s been close, more or less every race this year. Obviously, like I said, the circuits are so much different and it’s not a big surprise that the tyres are slightly different here. I don’t know. I’m not really interested in guessing what will happen, but I guess it's going to be close like it's been at other races; I’m surprised if it’s only one team is way ahead of another. Q: You don’t want to guess what’s going to happen this weekend, but after the technical problems you had in Canada last time out, do you feel you’re due a lucky break here? KR: No, not really! It’s not something you can count on it. -

First of all, congratulations on winning Le Mans, a great achievement, especially at your first attempt. How was it? Nico HULKENBERG: Yeah, it was quite amazing obviously. A very intense and long week. I flew from Montreal to Paris and then straight to Le Mans. But yeah, to come there, first attempt, and to win it with my team and my team-mates has just been incredible. You know, very emotional moments and a great experience that I don’t want to miss obviously, so very proud about what we’ve achieved there. In Canada we saw a Performance lift for Force India, scoring Points again and also for yourself. There’s a B-spec car coming relatively soon. So how optimistic are you, looking at the future? NH: Yeah, quite, to be honest. I think, like you say, recently we’ve made good progress, we had a car in the points four of the last five grands prix, so we see signs that it is getting better. In Silverstone we’ll get some new parts and major upgrades, so I really look forward to those. I’m quite we can have a really strong second half of the season, which hopefully then will make up for the first bit, which wasn’t quite to plan. -
