Being involved in this project carries special meaning for Sage, who reveals: “When I saw ‘Fame’ as a kid, the characters resonated with me so much...By the time the TV series came out I’d already decided I wanted to grow up to be a combination of Leroy, Coco and Bruno – who definitely inspired me to get my first synthesizer!” As a teenager, Sage’s passion for dance ultimately carried her to the renowned School of American Ballet (located directly across the street from the performing arts high school upon which “Fame” was based). “A lot of dancers at S.A.B also attended the High School For Performing Arts, so there’s definitely a big nostalgia-factor for me.” Sage eventually performed with the New York City Ballet, and also studied at the legendary Actors Studio, before turning her focus entirely toward being a musician. About the Film: A reinvention of the original Oscar®-winning hit film, Fame follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School for Performing Arts. In an incredibly competitive atmosphere, plagued by self-doubt, each student’s passion will be put to the test. With the love and support of their friend and fellow artists, they’ll find out who amongst them will achieve Fame… The cast includes a host of newcomers in the student roles, but fans of the original film will be pleased to find Debbie Allen recast as Principal Angela Simms; the faculty casting also features such luminary talent as Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth.
