Several different types of denim fabric are available depending on the function and look people are after. Cotton Serge 1. The traditional denim is 100 percent cotton serge. Additionally, denim is often blended with other fabrics. Raw Denim 2. Raw denim is dark, unwashed fabric that is stiff and very durable. It fades with wear in certain areas, creating a natural distressed look. It also fades with washing. Selvage Denim 3. The premium type of raw denim fabric is selvage denim, with tight weaving and natural edges that will not unravel. Selvage denim is more expensive than other raw denim. Stretch Denim 4. The blend closest to pure denim is called stretch denim, which usually includes 2 or 3 percent Spandex material for a bit of give in the fabric. Poly-Denim 5. Poly-denim blends look like a dressier denim, and are more lightweight, which makes them more convenient to wash and dry. They also are more resistant to wrinkling. Ramie-Denim 6. Denim is also sometimes blended with the plant fiber ramie, which reduces wrinkling and gives the fabric a softer feel. Her Majesty The Queen has owned no fewer than 63 Ascot winners, 20 of them at the Royal Meeting, and it’s always a great thrill for everyone when the Royal colours are successful. It would be marvellous for that to happen this year. We recall the perfect timing in Silver Jubilee year when dual Classic-winning Dunfermline provided tremendous success for The Queen. As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, we are staging a very special exhibition titled “60 years of Royal Ascot during the Reign of Her Majesty The Queen.” Situated beside the pre-parade ring, this is a photographic commemoration of the Royal Family at Ascot over the past 60 years. Central to the Royal Meeting is the fact that, on the track, we have the finest programme of races anywhere in the world. We have increased our prize money this year by £715,000 and now offer £4.5 million across the 30 races of the five-day meeting. None of the races are worth less than £55,000. Two of our races offer prize money of £500,000 each. We have renamed The Golden Jubilee Stakes. From this year it is The Diamond Jubilee Stakes and with prize money of £500,000 it is Britain’s most valuable sprint race. Royal Ascot’s two legs of the Global Sprint Challenge, The King’s Stand Stakes on Tuesday and The Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday, will again feature a truly cosmopolitan field of runners.

By Bloomberg.com staff MANHATTAN, N.Y.—America’s richest 0.1% today control more wealth than at any time since 1929, but their counterparts in Asia and Europe are gaining too. Worldwide, the 25 richest families now control almost $1.4 trillion in wealth, up 24% from last year. A notable addition this year: the Saudi royal family. The House of Saud is worth $100 billion, based on the cumulative payouts royal family members are estimated to have received over the past 50 years from the Royal Diwan, the executive office of the king. That’s a lowball figure. After all, oil giant Saudi Aramco, the linchpin of the Saudi economy, is the world’s most profitable company. The kingdom is hop- ing to take it public at a $2 trillion valuation. Tallying dynastic dollars isn’t an exact science. Fortunes backed by decades and sometimes centuries of assets and dividends can obfuscate the true extent of a family’s holdings. The net worth of the Rothschilds or Rockefellers, for instance, is too diffuse to value. Clans whose wealth is currently unverifi- able are also absent. But of those we can track, most are reaping the rewards of ultra-low interest rates, tax cuts, deregulation and innovation. Other big gainers include the owners of fashion house Chanel and Italy’s Ferrero family, whose brands include Nutella spread and Tic Tac mints.
