SAP foundation registrations close May 12

08.05.2014 Find out everything you need to know about the SAP foundation squads before registrations close on Monday May 12.

In 2014, the SAP foundation squads will be delivered by accredited NPL clubs in conjunction with the FFA/FFV Skill Acquisition team. Only NPL Clubs which meet the strict criteria will be granted SAP foundation accreditation status. The accredited clubs are listed below.

Is the SAP Foundation Program OPEN to all players born in 2003 and 2004? Yes it is open to both players who play at NPL and community clubs. Females born in 2002 can ALSO register. Males born in 2002 will not be considered. It is expected NPL clubs will engage local players from community clubs in their region. This will be mandated by the FFA/FFV SAP technical team.

I am born in 2005 or later. Can I register? No. The program is only open to players born in 2003 and 2004. Players born in 2005 or later should engage in unstructured play or Futsal as an additional development tool

Who are the Accredited NPL SAP foundation squad providers for 2014? (Please note - other NPL clubs may be granted “accredited” status during the year)

 Box Hill United  FC Bendigo  FC Bulleen Lions  North Geelong Warriors  Hume City FC  Northcote FC  Oakleigh Cannons FC  Pascoe Vale SC  Springvale White Eagles  South FC  Werribee City FC  South Gippsland (FFV/FFA-run)  Ballarat Red Devils (FFV/FFA-run)  Wodonga (FFV/FFA-run) Can I register if I am currently playing at U12 level in the NPL? No. Your club and coach should already be running a Technical Development program in line with the FFA National Curriculum at your club at U12 level. Refer to pages 127 onwards for Skill Acquisition Phase information

Will you run girls-only programs? Yes girls-only programs will be run in the Bayside area, north-west (Pascoe Vale SC), north-east (Box Hill SC) and north (Northcote SC). All four programs will be run identically and co-ordinated by FFV/FFA.

Who will conduct the trials and where? An accredited NPL club will set the dates and venue. There will be an independent assessor at each of the NPL SAP Foundation trials. This will ensure a fair and equitable selection process.

Who sets the training content?

All programs will run the same curriculum as set out by FFA/FFV. All skill trainers will have a minimum FFA C Licence accreditation. This criteria is part of the NPL SAP accreditation process.

How big will squad sizes be? There will be a player to coach ratio of 12:1. This may vary in regional and girls-only programs

What will be the cost of the program?

The maximum fee is set by FFV/FFA. This fee is capped at $9 + GST per session.

How many sessions per week? It is expected that two sessions be completed weekly. If there is a clash with your club training, we hope the SAP foundation squad training is prioritised, however this needs to be agreed and discussed with the club’s affected. We hope SAP foundation squads train on non-traditional training nights. Players then return to clubs for the weekly match

When will trials commence? We anticipate trials to commence in early May. Emails will be sent out advising dates and venues for each individual player.

How many trials will there be before squads are finalised? As many as the NPL club sees fit. This will be dependent on the number of trialists attending.

How long will the program run? We anticipate a 25-week program is conducted. This will be approximately 50 sessions.

Will the squads play competitive games?

The program is about technical development. There will also be SAP GALA days which will showcase ALL SAP foundation squads (girls and boys) from around Victoria at one centralised venue for a one-day football feast! Gala Day 1 – Ballarat May 31. Gala Day 2 – Darebin date TBC.

Is the program open to goalkeepers?

Yes the program does cater for goalkeepers. The modern goalkeeper needs to be competent in each of the four core skills. There is no specific goalkeeper-only training offered in the SAP foundation squads.
