4TH QUARTER IRP: From the Page to the Screen THIS PROJECT IS DUE MAY 9th. For this quarter’s IRP you will need to find a book that has been adapted into a film. It is important that you find a book/movie combination that is NEW to you. Do not read a book you’ve already read or watch a movie you’ve already seen. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE NOVEL FIRST. After reading the novel and then watching the movie adaptation, you will write an argument paper defending which version you think is better and why. Steps to Success: 1. Pick a novel. Remember to pick one that has ALREADY become a movie. 2. After finishing the reading, watch the film version of the book. Make sure that you are watching it like you would watch a movie at the theatre. No texting, talking, or distracting yourself- just enjoy the film. 3. Decide which version you liked best and why. You may want to jot down some notes. 4. Write a two page argument that explains in detail why the book was better than the film, or why the film was better than the novel. Be sure to include at least 3 CITATIONS from the text as well as examples from the film to compare and contrast your two versions. This should be well articulated and concise. Points will be deducted from papers which were obviously thrown together last minute. This project is worth 100 points. The point breakdown goes as follows: 25 points: The writer has 16-20 points: The 11-15 points: The 1-10 points: The 0 points: written with purpose.
