2 Non-Graduates from Junior High Schools in Japan

A “Qualification Certificate” (Shikaku Nintei) is necessary for taking the examination when you apply to public high schools (prefectural / municipal). Please be sure to consult the Prefectural School Management and Personnel Division (Kenritsu Gakkou Jinji-Ka Gakuji Tantou), Saitama Prefecture Board of Education for requirements before applying. ※Please contact each school if you plan to take entrance examinations for private schools.

4 Special Selection Process for Foreign Students

① Qualifications ・Persons who live within Saitama with legal guardians or who anticipate living within Saitama by March 31, 2015 ・Persons who have lived in Japan for less than three years in all(as of February 1, 2015) ② Entrance Examination Academic Achievement Examination (Math and English) and Interview ※Even if the number of applicants is few, you may not be accepted if your examination results do not meet the required school standards.

Please contact each school and/or Saitama Prefectural Education Center (regarding public schools) for the schedule. Or visit the Saitama Prefectural Education Center website (http://www.center.spec.ed.jp/) for the schedule and other information concerning high school entrance exams.

Each school holds information meetings. It is highly recommended to attend these meetings before you make your final decision for application. The joint school information meetings provide opportunities for students to obtain information from many schools at once.

7 Student Loans and Scholarships Various educational financial support systems are offered for students in need. There are student loans that require repayment and scholarships. Decisions are made by taking into consideration of the financial status of the family and students’ school records.

(1)National Grant High School Enrollment Support Fund・・For students attending public or private high schools, etc. Submit applications to schools. No repayment is needed after graduation. (2)Prefectural Student Loans and Scholarships ①Saitama Prefecture Student Loan Program for Senior High School Students ・・・For students whose guardians are living in Saitama Prefecture. Submit applications to schools. Repayment is required after graduation. ②A Subsidy to Support Parents of Private School Students ・・・For students living in Saitama prefecture and attending private schools within Saitama. Submit applications to schools. No repayment is needed after graduation. (3)Municipal Scholarship Some municipalities provide scholarships. Please ask municipal offices for information.
