European Union Training Mission Somalia PRESS SUMMARY 12th May 2018 “In ‘Media’ stat virtus” EUTM - SOMALIA 12/05/2018 U.S. military probes Somali civilian casualty in raid MOGADISHU, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. military said on Friday that it will investigate local reports that its forces killed civilians during an operation conducted in Somalia on Wednesday. The U.S. Africa Command (Africom), which oversees American troops on the African continent, said its special forces, in an advise-and-assist capacity, partnered in a Somali-led operation to disrupt and degrade al-Shabab's terrorist network near Bulcida on the outskirts of Afgoye in southern Somalia. "We are aware of reports alleging civilian casualties resulting from this operation, and we take these reports seriously. As with any allegations of civilian casualties we receive, U.S. Africa Command will review any information it has about the incident, including any relevant information provided by third parties," Africom said in a statement. "If the information supporting the allegation is determined to be credible, USAFRICOM will determine the next appropriate step," it added. Local officials said at least five people were killed during the operation that targeted key al-Shabab commanders. The militant group has several training camps in the area. At least ten civilians were killed in Barire in August 2017 forcing the government to compensate the families after it admitted those killed were civilians. The U.S. government however maintained the dead were al-Shabab terrorists although it did not offer details of the investigations. Survivors and relatives of the deadly raid in Barire had said they wanted blood money and an apology from the U.S.

It is the continuation of a wonderful partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality that has already seen us host our COSAFA Women’s Championship tournament in the Friendly City for the last three years, the Women’s Under-20 and Under-17 competitions in 2019 and 2020 respectively, and most recently the COSAFA Men’s Under-17 Championship. • Football and National Identity in Hong Kong and Mainland China
The Hong Kong Anthropologist Volume 1, 2007 Football and National Identity in Hong Kong and Mainland China CHAN Kwan Hang, Brooklyn1 Introduction Ernest Gellner believed in today’s world that, “a man must have a nationality as he must have a nose and two ears”. (Billig quoting Gellner 1983: 6) Hong Kong, with its history of being a British Crown Colony from 1898 to 1997, nationality doesn’t come as naturally as Gellner suggested. Residents often convey a weak sense of belonging towards their state, China. This can be seen from the majority of Hong Kong people paying phlegmatic attention to the 1997 handover as the “joy” of returning to the Motherland was shared by only a handful. Some even anticipated adverse prospects in Hong Kong. Fearing the worst, many chose to emigrate. Seven years on, significant change of hearts is still inexistent as today Chinese National Day is still rather overlooked and given the cold-shoulder in Hong Kong (local schools have the option to decide rather they celebrate National Day and most opt not to); and more obviously some people refuse or feel peculiar to call themselves “Chinese”. Seemingly Hong Kong people make little identification with their state, China. However when Yao Ming, a Chinese basketball player of Houston Rockets, visited Hong Kong in 2003 and 2005, stadiums were filled with enthusiastic audience attending a seminar about “Distinguished Chinese”; considerate support was given to China as the team played in the finals of the 2002 World Cup. How does that happen? Why doesn’t the identification persist and expand to other areas? Archetti once said, “Nationalism must be conceived as a cognitive and social arena marked by obligations and not by selfish consideration” (Giulianotti, Williams 1994: 227) This will bring us to the central question I wish to answer in this project.

  • 2021 COSAFA Cup TEAM NOTES
2021 COSAFA Cup TEAM NOTES HISTORY MATCHES SCORERS FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION of ZAMBIA President: Andrew Kamanga Website: www.faz.co.zm Established: 1929 Affiliated to FIFA: 1964 Affiliated to CAF: 1964 Honours: 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winners; 1997, 1998, 2006, 2013, 2019 COSAFA Cup winners; 1984, 1991 East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup BRIEF HISTORY Zambia won both of the first two editions of the COSAFA Cup, but it took until 2006 for them to claim their third regional title. They are also the current holders having triumphed in South Africa in 2019. They have a formidable record, having lost just nine times in 57 COSAFA Cup appearances, not counting defeats in post-match penalty shootouts. It was the annual Southern African championship that in 1999 forced Zambia to give up their 15-year unbeaten record at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium when Angola surprised them in the semifinal. The same happened again in 2001, albeit only after a post-match penalty shootout and again in the 2004 final. Zambia’s first two COSAFA Cup victories were achieved away from home, drawing in Windhoek with Namibia in 1997 to win the mini-league and beating Zimbabwe in Harare a year later. Their triumph in 2006 was, however, in front of their own fans in Lusaka. In 2007 they lost on penalties to South Africa, while the South African Presidents XI knocked them out of the competition in the semifinals in 2008. The Zambians would go on to beat Madagascar 2-0 in the third-place play-off. They were finalists in 2009 in Zimbabwe, but ended up losing the decider 3-1 to their hosts, before getting revenge two years later when they defeated the Warriors 2-0 in the final.

Prime Minister Hon. Mizengo Pinda, center, officiated and has actively recruited new partners from diverse sectors. © 2013 Johns Hopkins University • Center for Communication Programs. All rights reserved. Tanzania: A UAM Case Study Malaria is one of Tanzania’s deadliest diseases, accounting for 36% of deaths among children under age five and some 40% of all outpatient visits. Nearly all 46 million Tanzanians are at risk, according to the World Health Organization’s 2012 World Malaria Report. The National Malaria Control Program reports that ap- proximately 14 to 18 million malaria cases occur in Tanzania per year. Of those, 60,000 end in death. To combat rampant malaria, Tanzania has distributed 26.4 million nets since 2010. In 2011, a universal coverage campaign set out to cover every sleeping space with a long-lasting insecticide-treated net, and a keep-up campaign is now underway. Pregnant women and infants receive free nets through a national voucher scheme. Other malaria commdities such as rapid diagnostic tests and subsidized ACTs are being scaled up, but additional resources and continued behavior change communication is needed to sustain these gains.

Both the Chinese and the Greeks, before the Christian era, as well as the Florentines during the Renaissance, played games based on moving a sphere with their feet. Tsu-chu in China, Kemari, in Japan, Epyskiros, in Greece, and Harpastrum, in the Roman Empire, are some of the names of rudimentary forms of the game that became known as football. Developed by the English starting in the 12th century, it was only in the first half of the 19th century that football acquired a set of rules, seeking to differentiate it from rugby, another very popular sport in British schools. In 1863, the Football Association was created, consolidating the rules and organizing the first games and tournaments of the new sport.
