Holy Reflection

Reflection

Today is a day filled with silence. Those who loved and followed were because their Saviour had died. It seemed as if death had the final word as they saw the sealed tomb. Today we can enter into the mourning, the silence, the stillness.

As we know, death marks the end of a life on earth. There is a finality to it that can be scary to think about—and often we choose not to. Today, let us spend some time thinking about Jesus in the tomb, lifeless and still. Contemplate how death was the final word on our life before the resurrection. If we’re able to grasp the finality of death, then we can start to ponder the great power the Lord has to overcome it. Where there was death, He brought life.

How Can We Spend Today?

We know how this story ends, with Jesus rising from the grave. We can live in hope because we know the truth. We know what happens tomorrow! But to fully celebrate tomorrow’s great feast, we must make preparations and patiently wait. Here are ideas of how to spend today:

Spend extra time in prayer. You can use this meditation, go to the scriptures, or read a spiritual book to seek the Lord and what He might have to say to you.

Prepare for the feast. If you or your family are having a meal together tomorrow, you can spend today prepping food, choosing what you will make for dessert, or any other final touches before you enter into the feast.

Clean the house. This is one way that we can honor the Lord’s resurrection—by cleaning our homes. We can spend an hour cleaning and preparing our room or our home and decorating with decorations as we wait for the King to arrive. If we get the work done today, we can rest fully tomorrow when it is time.

Serving those around you. Today you can spend time thinking about the people in your life and how you can serve them. Can you buy your mom flowers? Can you do the dishes for your roommates or take your sibling’s chore? Let’s enter into the celebratory season by putting other people before ourselves and show them Christ’s love through our service.

How Can We Spend Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is a day of true leisure. It is the Sunday of Sundays. Maybe your and time at home with your family is not happening this year how you had hoped. But we can rest assured that the Lord still has something for us in it.

What does a leisurely Sunday look like for you? True rest gives us life—it makes us feel restored. It does not drain us, make us feel lonely, or draw us away from God. True leisure creates and points us to our Creator. It draws us deeper into relationship with the Lord and those around us.

Take some time to consider what those things in your life are. What creates true rest in your life?
