UNIFIED KICKBALL RULES Each player is responsible for presenting a current UNC ONE CARD or valid government ID at game time. PURPOSE Unified Sports is an inclusive sports program that unites Special Olympics athletes and the UNC community as teammates for recreation. Our mission is to provide a diverse and intentional recreational program in a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment which enhances the social, mental and physical well-being of all participants. GENERAL RULES Kickball is a simple game consisting of two teams, bases, and a big red ball. Played like baseball, the object is to score more runs than the opposing team. In short, games are played with 10 fielders, 7 innings, no bouncing pitches, no head shots, and one base on an overthrow. The following rules will govern all kickball games. For the enjoyment of all, proper respect and civility is required of all participants toward one another. 1. Teams are composed of 8 – 12 total players. (10 fielders at a time; all players can kick in the order of the established line up). 2. The defensive team may be set up in any order the team wishes. There is no set rule for placing defending players. 3. Each team receives FOUR outs per inning. A game consists of 7 innings or 50 minutes. No new inning will start after 45 minutes. 4. The offensive team will supply the pitcher. Each kicker will receive up to 5 pitches to put the ball in play. After the 5th pitch, if the ball has not been kicked fair, the kicker will be out. 5. A player will be ruled out if they do not kick a fair kick after 5 pitches, get hit by the ball from the shoulders or below before reaching the base, a pop fly is caught, base runner or kicker is forced out, base runner or kicker is tagged out by a defensive player holding the ball, or if the base runner is off the base before the ball is put into play by the kicker. 6. There will be no official, however, the field monitors will decide on all disputed calls on the field at the time the problem arises. 7. There will be no infield fly rule. 8. Sliding is prohibited. A person who slides will be declared out. 9. Bunting is also prohibited, the participant will re-kick as long as they have not surpassed their 5 pitch limit. 10. Tie games will be decided by extra innings. .
