The edge-of-your-seat anthology crime drama is a Presto SVOD exclusive and centres on the lives of Louisiana State Police homicide detectives Rustin "Rust" Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin "Marty" Hart (Woody Harrelson) and follows a seventeen- year journey of flashbacks where the two detectives recount a murder. With the perpetrator still at large, it’s a race against time for these two men to piece things together and stop the cycle. Also streaming in January, is the third season of tough guy drama, Ray Donovan starring Liev Schreiber, as the title character. Ray is a "fixer" for L.A.’s elite celebrities, athletes and business moguls when they need to make their problems disappear. But no amount of money can mask Ray's past, which continues to haunt him and threatens to destroy everything he has built for himself. Many people are familiar with the classic tales of Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. Penny Dreadful brings those and other characters into a new light by exploring their origin stories in this psychological thriller that takes place in the dark corners of Victorian London. Presto adds season 2 from January. Finally, The Americans introduces viewers to Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, two KGB spies in an arranged marriage who are posing as Americans during the 1980s.

It is intended to serve as a road map toward increasing fair, accurate, and inclusive LGBT media representations. GLAAD has seen time and again how images of multi-dimensional gay and transgender people on television have the power to change public percep- tions. The Pulse of Equality Survey, commissioned by GLAAD and conducted by Harris Interactive, confirmed a growing trend toward greater acceptance among the American public. Among the 19% who reported that their feelings toward gay and lesbian people have become more favorable over the past 5 years, 34% cited “seeing gay or lesbian characters on television” as a contrib- uting factor. In fact when Vice President Joe Biden endorsed marriage equality this year, he cited the NBC sitcom Will & Grace as one of the factors that led to a better understanding of the LGBT community by the American public. As diverse LGBT images in the media become more prevalent, the general public becomes exposed to the truth of the LGBT community: lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans are parents and teachers, law enforce- ment and soldiers, high school students and loving elderly couples.

    William Kurelek's Picture Books

    Through a glass darkly: William Kurelek's picture books Jetske Sybesma-Ironside ~illiamKurelek's first one-man exhibition at the Isaacs Gallery in Toronto in March, 1960, marked the beginning of his successful career as a painter and illustrator of children's books. In his pictures we recognize our own percep- tions of Canada: the Prairie, where farmers cultivate the land with powerful machinery, or where children's games are recurrent motifs in summer or winter season; the North, where man is seen to endure the elements while working in the bush or where a dream of the Christmas story is re-enacted by humble people. Kurelek's gift of capturing momentary actions of man and beast animates his picture books so that the images convey the narrative visually. The immediate impact of the artist's illustrations is largely due to the realistic, descriptive style in which the objects and figures are drawn. He outlines all his visible objects with an animated contour, establishing a clarity of pictorial form. Although it is often remarked that the artist was influenced by the sixteenth century painter, Pieter Bruegel, who painted children's games, the seasons and the common man active in his daily toil, it seems that Kurelek's style of drawing was largely formed through the so-called "Nicolaides method".
