SECONDARY AND SENIOR SECONDARY SPORTS DAY The morning of December 17th 2016 seemed like an energetic morning that witnessed the students of TOS put forth a beautiful display of sportsmanship, team spirit, vigour, energy, strength and stamina in their Annual Sports day. This was the Sports day for the secondary and senior secondary domain for which preparations and selections have been going on since last few weeks. The sports Torch- symbol of harmony and goodwill was carried by the house captions and then the event commenced with the Flag hoisting and march past by the secondary and senior secondary students. “The five S’s of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.”-Ken Doherty. The Orchid School believes that in order to maintain that spirit, recognition has to be given to all students who excelled in any sport.Hence, a total of 32 students were awarded with medals and certificates for their achievements in various areas of sports at district , state and national level. The School Football team which won the silver medal at the schoolympics this year was also felicitated. It has been observed in the past that the students who are part of one of the four houses at TOS namely, Unnati, Ujala, Umang and Udaan always put in extra effort as a team as well as individually to bring laurels to their house. Keeping this in mind, the format for the Sports day was changed this year. Students and house teachers were thrilled to see the different houses performing the drills on the same music and demonstrating the same steps. And the selection for the order of the drills was purely done through lucky draws and hence eliminated any chances of bias towards any house. It was truly amazing to see the different houses perform their perfectly coordinated drill while spreading the fitness mantra through their Yoga and Aerobics demonstrations. Parents experienced their share of highs and lows when they saw students closely compete with each other at the finish line in the 100m, 200m, 400m, hurdle races and relay races. Yet, there was constant cheer for the students who were determined to give their best. School sports teacher Anil Sir, Sharma Sir, along with Namrata Di, gave the medals and certificates to the winners in the races. Our special stars for the day were Sarvesh Garge and Amoli Birewar who were awarded the Sports Boy and Sports Girl of the Year award for their achievements throughout the year in the field of sports. It was indeed a proud moment for all of us to see them receive this award from their parents. The event concluded with the announcement of Awards for Team Games where in the Winner and runners up house teams get trophies for Cricket, Basketball, Football, Throwball, and Dodgeball. A surprise race was conducted for our Alumni members this year !!! The ex-students really enjoyed this race as it brought back their memories as school students.. All in all it was a fun filled event !! Click here to view more pictures of the event. Click here to view more pictures of the event. .
