The decision Friday by the Army Board for the Correction of Mili- tary Records could have ramifica- tions for numerous other troops and cost the Army millions more. Army finance officials’ decisions that “gave rise to the investigative and disciplinary actions ... were er- roneously executed and erroneous- ly implemented,” the board ruled. The board said the service must start paying back the reservists no later than October, and their re- cords are to be cleared of wrongdo- ing. A federal court had ordered the board to consider the cases of the reservists, who sued the Army in 2018. Patrick Hughes, a former Air Force attorney now with the Patri- ots Law Group, said the Army owes about $500,000 in compensation for the denied payments and the debts the reservists incurred.

  • Penguin Baseball History
    Penguin Baseball History The Penguins baseball program began in 1948 with Men’s Basketball Coach Dom Rosselli at the helm. The program was halted following the 1950 season but returned in 1958 and has been a sport at YSU ever since. The Penguins have had seven coaches in school history, including current coach Rich Pasquale. In 2004, the Penguins qualified for their first NCAA Division I Regional in school history by winning the Horizon League Tournament. Playing host to the tournament at Eastwood Field, YSU posted a 4-0 mark beating the No. 2 seed, No. 3 seed (twice) and No. 1 seed on the way to the title. The Penguins played at the Austin Regional losing to Texas and TCU at the event. Prior to making the NCAA postseason in 2004, YSU last appeared on the Division II Regional stage in 1977, 1966 and 1964. Dom Rosselli also coached the program through 1981 and had a record of 418-219. All-time the Penguins have had nine Major League Baseball Draft picks, highlighted in 2001, when the San Francisco Giants selected Brad Hennessey in the first round. The most newsworthy Penguin to play in the majors is perhaps pitcher Dave Dravecky. Dravecky battled back from cancer to return to the Major Leagues in the early 1990’s before having his arm amputated because of his illness. Senior catcher Leo Fusilli earned all-conference honors for the third consecutive year and made his second appearance on the first team. The 2009 Empire 8 Player of the Year is hitting .373 with 29 runs scored and a team-best 37 runs batted in. Junior relief pitcher Tim Sylvester of the Cardinals is 3-0 with three saves and a 1.71 earned run average to earn first-team accolades. In 21 innings, he has allowed 15 hits and struck out 28.     National Baseball Hall of Fame Frank Frisch Scrapbooks, 1913 - 1969 BA SCR 78 v. 1 - 69 Abstract The Frank Frisch scrapbook collection is comprised of 46 more or less chronologically- arranged scrapbooks, the majority of which concern the years in which Frisch was not a major league baseball player. Rather, the focus is on a different side of Frisch. While some of these scrapbooks deal with the years in which Frisch attended Fordham University, and others deal with his various tenures as a major league manager, the majority of the collection contains material not directly about Frank Frisch, but rather about his hobbies, pastimes, and lifestyle. A complicated man, Frisch was an aggressive, volatile figure on the baseball diamond; some say second in intensity only to Ty Cobb. However, away from the playing field, his interests and hobbies included politics, reading, gardening, opera, religion, and food. This collection gives us a glimpse into that off-the-field world. Throughout the collection, there are hand-written comments and opinions, presumably by Frisch himself (the scrapbooks were probably organized by Frisch), often written over the clippings. As he was a deeply-opinionated person, these comments, often scrawled in grease pencil, give us some insight into the personality of Frisch. Although the majority of the collection consists of newspaper and magazine clippings, the scrapbooks also contain correspondence, original photos, programs, radio scripts, and certificates. Also included are an abundance of newspapers columns, both baseball and non-baseball oriented. Some of the more prolific baseball columnists included in this collection are Arthur Daley, John Kieran, John Drebinger, Joe Williams, Bill Corum, Jimmy Powers, Jimmy Cannon, Red Smith, Frank Graham, Les Biederman, Dan Daniel, John P.
