Faith-based communities can often increase the success of their environmental campaigns and projects by coordinating them with existing events and holidays. Use this calendar, which lists environmental, religious and cultural events and holidays, to develop ideas to implement seasonal projects or incorporate environmental messages into your community’s regularly celebrated holidays and worship ceremonies. Also keep in mind that you can green your celebrations anytime of the year! (Please note that some of the religious holidays are not dependent on calendar seasons, but are still noted here as examples.)

What is a watershed? A watershed is an area of land that catches any form of water, including rain, snow or other precipitation, and drains to a common lake, river or stream. Watersheds come in all differ- ent shapes and sizes. Smaller water- sheds drain into larger watersheds, much like a creek drains into a river. Some watersheds cross county, state, and even international borders. Water resources are all connected. The rain water that falls on your house, lawn or driveway runs into a nearby lake, river or stream. Customizing the questions/survey This word document can be downloaded from www.hennepin.us/CommunityPOWER. The name of your program, project or workshop can be inserted throughout the questions. Other language of the questions should not be altered. These questions can be inserted into an exist- ing survey or accompany other ques- tions you design. It can be useful to ask the respondent’s level of experience with the program (days or hours or partici- pation, for example) as well as other background information.
