INDIA AIMS TO BE 1ST COUNTRY TO LAND ROVER ON MOON'S SOUTH POLE India will become the first country to land a rover on the Moon's the south pole if the country's space agency "Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)" successfully achieves the feat during the country's second Moon mission "Chandrayaan-2" later this year. "This is a place where nobody has gone. All the ISRO missions till now to the Moon have landed near the Moon's equator. Chandrayaan-2, India’s second lunar mission, has three modules namely Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) & Rover (Pragyan). The Orbiter and Lander modules will be interfaced mechanically and stacked together as an integrated module and accommodated inside the GSLV MK-III launch vehicle. The Rover is housed inside the Lander. After launch into earth bound orbit by GSLV MK-III, the integrated module will reach Moon orbit using Orbiter propulsion module. Subsequently, Lander will separate from the Orbiter and soft land at the predetermined site close to lunar South Pole.

By doing so, the Group has established itself as a corporate group that serves as a crucial part of social infrastructure. As we have just moved beyond the significant milestone of our 100-year anniversary, we are seeing significant changes occurring rapidly in our business environment, including the diversification of customer expectations and needs, the shift to EC (e-commerce) in various industries, a decline in the overall population, the deterioration of infrastructure in rural communities, a shrinking workforce, and climate change and resource shortages. To realize a sustainable society under these circumstances, the active participation of corporations in the resolution of social and environmental issues is becoming even more important. Furthermore, the global spread of COVID-19 has accelerated changes to people’s lifestyles and the structure of the logistics industry. Under such an environment, the Yamato Group will transition to a “One Yamato” management structure, which will gather together the diverse management resources of each Group company, in April 2021. The Group will also work to provide value throughout the entire supply chain. By doing so, we will enhance convenience for our individual customers while supporting the overall management of our corporate clients to help them better respond to change. In addition, we will further strengthen our initiatives toward sustainability and promote the creation of “new logistics ecosystems” with the aim of resolving social issues as a crucial part of social infrastructure.

It talks about the need for comprehensive space law, in the context of the new space-age gold rush. Though the US was the first country to land humans on the moon (Apollo missions), India's Chandrayaan-1 was the first spacecraft that unveiled the evidence of water in the moon's craters in 2008. After the success of Chandrayaan 1 mission, Chandrayaan 2 has been one of the most anticipated missions of ISRO. With the success of Chandrayaan 2, India will become the fourth country to soft-land a vehicle on the moon (after the US, Russia and China). For India it is more than symbolism, as the mission envisages a larger aim, however, it poses a bigger question of space sovereignty. Chandrayaan 2 mission 1/5 ISRO had planned the Chandrayaan 2 for 2014. The mission was supposed to be a joint mission along with Russia in which Russia was to provide the lander and rover system, but Russia failed to deliver. This resulted in a delay in the programme but Russia’s non-participation made ISRO design and develop the entire lander-rover system indigenously. This would make ISRO more self-sufficient in the long run. ISRO would be undertaking five to six orbit raising manoeuvres, known as earth orbit burns, to take the Chandrayaan 2 close to the moon.
