Our destination is the Grand Canyon of the , home to the 109-foot Upper Falls and 308-foot Lower Falls. The route there via Norris is always open, so that’s the route we’ll follow. If the weather is fine, we may be able to return via Yellowstone Lake (and if not, we’ll have to retrace our inbound route, as of the many things within our control, the weather just isn’t one of them!). Either way, it will be a day of scenery, wildlife, and photographic opportunities!

Today, the journey is a long one so you will partake in a field lunch at a site chosen by your Guide.

Dinner will be served in the Old Faithful Snow Lodge dining room prior to spending your second evening overnighting in the village. Dinner reservations have been made for you at 6:45pm.

Day 4

Breakfast will be served in the dining room and like yesterday, please arrive no later than 7:00am.

This morning you may partake in a guided snowshoe tour within the Old Faithful area, or those who so desire may just explore this area on their own (snow shoe rentals are included for this activity).

Dinner reservations have been made for you at 5pm in the dining room this evening.

During the hours of darkness you will participate in a Steam, Stars and Winter Soundscapes tour. Your Guide will take you to visit some distinctive Yellowstone features where you will experience wilderness that many participants have never encountered in their lifetime. It’s an adventure for all your senses!

Day 5

This morning is a bit more leisurely. Breakfast and check out should be completed by 9:00am so you can hit the snooze a few times if you like. Please place your luggage outside your room and our bell service staff will make sure it gets loaded on our snowcoach.

Today we’ll say farewell to Old Faithful Snow Lodge and wind our way back north to Mammoth Hot Springs with field lunches on board. The Fountain Paint Pot Nature Trail, where one may see and enjoy each of the four major types of thermal features, is saved for this final morning. Additional scenic stops and/or wildlife viewing opportunities as they present themselves is today’s goal. On arrival at Mammoth, we’ll walk the otherworldly Mammoth Terraces.

A late-afternoon return will afford you the opportunity to rest or explore the Mammoth Hot Springs Area. Perhaps a walk through the Visitor Education Center or a self-guided walking tour of Fort Yellowstone will be to your liking.

As tonight is the last evening of your package, a group dinner with all participants and your Guide has been arranged at 5:15pm. This is the perfect opportunity to share your favorite things about your adventure with your fellow travelers and also to say “so long” to the new friends you’ve made along the way.

Clothing essentials for a comfortable trip:

The layered use of synthetics and wool with protection from the wind is the goal of your clothing choices. Loose fitting layers allow you to maintain a comfortable and dry body by having flexibility in insulation as outside temperatures change and as your own body's temperature and moisture output changes with different levels of exertion. It is strongly recommended that you not wear cotton clothing outdoors in the winter, especially next to your skin.
