Saint Francis (NY) Terriers 2006-07 NEC Finish: 8th, 7-11 Saint Francis (NY) Terriers Season Preview 2006-07 Overall Record: 13-18 2006-07 NEC Record/Finish: 7-11/8th 2006-07 NEC Tournament Result: Lost in Semifinals, 77-68, to RMU The Terriers and head coach Brenda Milano have to be optimistic about the new season after last year’s finish. St. Francis (NY) grabbed the eighth and final spot in the NEC Tournament, then stunned top-seeded LIU on the road by 10 points to advance to the semifinals, where the Terriers gave eventual champion Robert Morris all it could handle. With the top three scorers returning, there may be more big wins to come. Senior guards Tiffany Hill (Orange, NJ/Orange) and Kara Ayers (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) are a dangerous backcourt duo having averaged 14.6 ppg and 11.8 ppg, respectively, last year. Making the Terriers even more difficult to defend is the league’s tallest player in 6-8 center Katja Bavendam (Hamburg, Germany/Osterholz-Scharmbeck). An all-NEC selection, Bavendam nearly averaged a double-double with 14.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She was also a force on the defensive end, effectively utilizing her size to block a league- best 98 shots (3.16/gm), which ranked her amongst the nation’s top ten shot- blockers. It should not be a surprise to see that block total increase this season, Tiffany Hill especially with one of the WNBA’s all-time blocks leaders Sue Wicks on Milano’s staff.
