Elon, which had been picked to place 1989-92 Temple (quarterbacks) 11th in the 12-team CAA Football league, posted a 6-2 conference record to finish third. Elon’s performance on the 1993-99 Pittsburgh (quarterbacks / tight ends) field led to Cignetti claiming CAA Football Coach of the Year honors and a fourth-place finish in the voting for the Eddie 2000-06 NC State (quarterbacks / tight ends) Robinson Award for the FCS National Coach of the Year. 2007-10 Alabama (wide receivers) During the 2017 season, Elon returned to the top-25 rankings for the first time since 2010, peaking at No. 7. The disastrous fire of 1923 all but destroyed Elon. Gone were college records, SINGLE SEASON classrooms, the library and the chapel. FIRST-YEAR MARKS -Among the records he established at Elon were career receptions (395) and career receiving yards (5,250), both of which currently (1977) 9-2 rank second all-time at the FCS level. Curt Cignetti (2017) 8-4 -Hudgins currently holds the FCS career record for receptions per game (8.78) and his 45 career touchdown receptions is third in the (1937) 7-1 history of FCS football while his 116.7 receiving yards per game is fourth.
