27 May 2008 - 3 - Steve Ole Olson SGFsoccer.com – The Magazine Publishers Message When I decided to publish this magazine, I didn’t think it would be too difficult. Boy was I wrong. But like almost everything associated with the game of soccer, I appreciate the enthusiasm it has generated in the people I have talked to about it. I hope this magazine, and the ones to come, meet your expectations.

The objective is to promote the game and to develop ‘soccer junkies’ in Southwest Missouri. I believe the key to that effort is covering the players and the teams that mean the most to you – generally the high school game and to a smaller degree the college game. It also means exposing you to events and experiences outside your comfort zone. Your feedback is the key to improving the process so please be certain to share your thoughts!

Thanks to Jeff Rogers who was my introduction to soccer in Springfield, a coach my nephews played for and admire, and who continues to share of himself as he has for so many young men and women. Thanks to Jan Stahle , with whom I share a love of the game and a common Swedish heritage, for offering support and encouragement from the start. Thanks to Coaches Mike Gow , Mike Howard , Chris Miller and Nick Schmitt who very early embraced what I was doing and pushed me to create even more. Thanks to Jeremy Alumbaugh and his team at Springfield SC who have offered me a ‘peek behind the curtain’ at the challenges of running a successful Club program at a national level as well as allowing me to partner with him on the All-Star game.

Sponsors who make this possible include Pension Consultants, Inc. Harry Cooper Supply Company, Hogan Title Company, Cox Health, Christenson Transportation and the folks who buy my photos. Thank you!

The growth of soccer, and in Harry's words, the Park District’s increasing recognition of the value of a single large facility, led to the creation of Fields 10-16 on the west side of the park, the proposed site of the aquatics center.

A U.S. Soccer Foundation grant was pursued to fund the development of the fields, and the USSF grant process was speeded up when Harry offered to match the USSF funds, said Geoffrey Butler, a principal at Butler Rosenbury & Partners and former LCS treasurer and President. These are the East Fields, of which there are four.
