Legislative Assembly Province of Alberta No. 9 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS First Session Twenty-Eighth Legislature Monday, October 29, 2012 The Speaker took the Chair at 1:30 p.m. Ministerial Statements Hon. Mr. Johnson, Minister of Education, made a statement regarding the tragic vehicle accident at Racette Junior High School in St. Paul on October 25, 2012, and the death of Grade 6 student Megan Wolitski. Mr. Saskiw, Hon. Member for Lac La Biche-St. Paul-Two Hills, commented on the statement. The Speaker requested and received the unanimous consent of the Assembly to allow additional Members to comment on the Ministerial Statement. Mr. Hehr, Hon. Member for Calgary-Buffalo, and Mr. Eggen, Hon. Member for Edmonton-Calder, then commented on the statement. Hon. Mr. Hancock, Government House Leader, requested and received the unanimous consent of the Assembly to waive Standing Order 7(7) in order to complete the Daily Routine. Members’ Statements Ms Pastoor, Hon. Member for Lethbridge-East, made a statement congratulating the University of Lethbridge on being named Canada’s Research University of the Year in the undergraduate category by Research Infosource. Mr. Anglin, Hon. Member for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, made a statement regarding alleged illegal spying relating to Alberta Energy and Utilities Board public hearings. Mr. Fraser, Hon. Member for Calgary-South East, made a statement regarding the My Child’s Learning online resource website. Mr. Luan, Hon. Member for Calgary-Hawkwood, made a statement regarding the Registered Apprenticeship Program. Ms Calahasen, Hon. Member for Lesser Slave Lake, made a statement regarding the 40th anniversary of the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre. Dr. Swann, Hon. Mr. Zwozdesky, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Sessional Paper 112/2012 Speaker’s Statement - Dr. McNeil, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly The Speaker made a statement congratulating Dr. David McNeil on his 25th anniversary on August 1, 2012, of becoming Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and presented him with a 25th anniversary Legislative Assembly of Alberta pin. ORDERS OF THE DAY Public Bills and Orders Other Than Government Bills and Orders Second Reading The following Bill was read a Second time and referred to Committee of the Whole: Bill 201 Scrap Metal Dealers and Recyclers Identification Act — Mr. Quest 3 Hon. Mr. Hancock, Government House Leader, requested and received the unanimous consent of the Assembly to call it 5:00 p.m. and begin consideration of Motions Other Than Government Motions. Motions Other Than Government Motions 501. Moved by Dr. Starke: Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to explore options for providing support to municipalities that experience significant local road deterioration due to heavy industry/resource truck traffic, with the goal of ensuring these roads are adequately maintained and available for all to use. A debate followed. The question being put, the motion was agreed to. Adjournment On motion by Hon. Mr. Hancock, Government House Leader, the Assembly adjourned at 5:53 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 — 7:30 P.M. Government Bills and Orders Second Reading The following Bills were read a Second time and referred to Committee of the Whole: Bill 8 Electric Utilities Amendment Act, 2012 — Hon. Mr. Hughes Bill 9 Alberta Corporate Tax Amendment Act, 2012 ($) — Hon. Mr. Horner Committee of the Whole According to Order, the Assembly resolved itself into Committee of the Whole and the Deputy Speaker left the Chair. (Assembly in Committee) And after some time spent therein, the Deputy Speaker resumed the Chair. Progress was reported on the following Bill: Bill 1 Workers’ Compensation Amendment Act, 2012 — Hon. Ms Redford 4 Ms Pastoor, Acting Chair of Committees, tabled copies of an amendment considered by Committee of the Whole on this date for the official records of the Assembly. Amendment to Bill 1 (Hon. Member for Edmonton-Strathcona) — Adjourned debate Sessional Paper 113/2012 Adjournment On motion by Hon.
