BACKGROUND Dengue is a major public health problem, affecting all tropical and many subtropical countries. It has been reported more than 200 thousand cases per year only in Americas (1). Sixty nine percent (69 %) of anti-infective drugs developed between 1981 and 2010 had been derived from or inspired by natural products, highlighting the importance of the natural resources in the research and development of new antiviral drugs (2).
