Meredith Baxter Turns Painful History Into a Message of Hope for Women MEREDITH BAXTER TURNS PAINFUL HISTORY INTO A MESSAGE OF HOPE FOR WOMEN In the Hallmark Channel Original Movie “Bound By a Secret” (Saturday, March 7 at 9/8c ), Meredith Baxter plays Ida, whose best friend, a famous soap actress played by Lesley Ann Warren, returns to their hometown when she discovers that she will soon succumb to cancer. Although Baxter plays the role of loving and supportive friend, she can easily identify with both characters. “I am a breast cancer survivor, and I’ve been speaking around the country about my experiences for about six years now,” she says. “It’s very gratifying to open up to other survivors.” But it wasn’t always so easy for the “Family Ties” actress to speak freely about the affliction. It was a slow process that was helped by, of all things, dry skin. In 1997, she launched Meredith Baxter Simple Works, a line of skin care products created initially to correct her own dry skin problem. But response from family and friends was so great that she decided to take it to the public. She also founded The Meredith Baxter Fund for Breast Cancer Research, which supports vital breast cancer programs throughout the United States. Baxter announced that a portion of all profits from Simple Works would go to the foundation. “I would be at trade shows to present Simple Works and women – some of them still wearing head scarves because of radiation treatment - would see the pink ribbon and want to talk to me,” she explains. “My first reaction was to close down and not want to talk, but I began to open up, slowly. We’d talk and cry and share stories and it helped me get rid of that shame. “It can be a slow process, but I came to learn that healing emotionally is as important as healing physically.” In addition to understanding the mindset of the patient, Baxter also had a personal experience that allowed her to connect to her character in the film, who watches her dear friend slip away. “My mother died of esophageal cancer about seven, eight years ago,” Baxter recalls. “And there was one time when she looked at me - I didn’t know she was dying at that point – but she looked at me in a way that was like her eyes were just taking in everything on my face, just making up for lost time. “In retrospect, it was the sweetest thing. Of course, at the time, because I didn’t know what she was going through, I thought, ‘Gee, she’s looking at me like she’s never going to see me (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL/ ‘BOUND BY A SECRET’ – Meredith Baxter Turns Painful History Into Message of Hope For Women – Page 2 again!’ Well, she died four months later -– and I get it. It’s the personal connection. There cannot be anything else.” Today, Baxter is stronger for having lived through such trials, and is a sought-after public speaker on surviving the experiences of breast cancer, substance abuse and overcoming domestic violence. In addition to her work on behalf of breast cancer awareness, Baxter is a women’s rights and anti-abuse activist and is a member of Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America. For her work on the TV movie “My Breast,” she received a special award for public awareness from the National Breast Cancer Coalition. “We can be a lifeline for each other,” she says of fellow breast cancer survivors, who she encourages to banish the shame and fear and arm themselves with knowledge, a sense of humor and a proactive attitude. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of, and speaking with other survivors who know what you are going through is a powerful and loving experience.” CONTACT: Pam Slay, 818-755-2480 For more information, visit www.HallmarkChannelPress.com -- HALLMARK CHANNEL -- .

  • What People Say About Chiropractic
What people say about Chiropractic "I am very fortunate to have, so-to-speak, my in-house chiropractor, Dr. Franco Colombu, as my own personal chiropractor. So, I visit Franco regularly, and he comes over to my house. He adjusts my wife, my kids, me, everybody gets an adjustment. And we feel always great when Franco leaves. Even when I have athletic injuries he's always there for me, and helps me. So it's really terrific, and I know that first hand. That's why I always will be traveling around, all over the world, talking highly about the profession of chiropractic. You chiropractic doctors are really miracle workers, and that's why it's really great to have you here, part of the Arnold Classic. Because, like I said, the Arnold Classic and Fitness Weekend are about health and about fitness and preventive care." Arnold Schwarzenegger "If it were not for Chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal." Dan O'Brien Decathlon Gold Medallist Appearing in films like The Patriot and Braveheart has taken its toll on Mel Gibson. "You get hurt all the time. All you gotta do is just like eight takes of running down a hill and you twist an ankle," the action pic veteran tells TV Guide Online. "I got a chiropractor to come along to the [Patriot] shoot, because they can actually stick you back together within 15 minutes. He used to come every other week, from Los Angeles to South Carolina spend a week and work on the entire crew.

http://www.epgn.com/arts-and-culture/features/13236-live-from-new-hope-television-icons-take-the- stage-in-bucks-county-productions March 29, 2018 By Larry Nichols Stars from classic and beloved television shows and film will star in a pair of theatrical shows at the Bucks County Playhouse. The first up is Emmy-winning actor and television icon Ed Asner, starring in “A Man and His Prostate,” a one-man show written by Philadelphia native and nine-time Emmy winner Ed Weinberger. Based on a real experience, the stage comedy is an unflinching and heartwarming examination of Weinberger’s encounter with pain, relief and the retrieval of his manhood when his vacation in Italy takes an unexpected turn after he is rushed to a hospital for prostate-cancer surgery. Faced with an operation he doesn’t want, in a medical system he doesn’t understand, he decides he won’t take any of life’s injustices sitting down. “It’s wonderfully funny,” Asner told PGN about the show, running March 30-April 1. “It’s written beautifully enough and we keep them entertained the whole time. Women are the hardest laughers of all.” Asner said that while the show overflows with humor, it also touches on some less-than-pleasant facts about prostate cancer. “The salient point is, a man dies of prostate cancer in this country every 16 minutes.” Asner has portrayed a wide range of characters, both comedic and dramatic, throughout his long and storied career, ranging from kind-hearted souls to irrepressible scoundrels. Asner said he’s never shied away from taking roles that are the opposite of his personality.

  • Michael J. Fox's Crusade for a Parkinson's Cure
Michael J. Fox's Crusade for a Parkinson's Cure How the actor's Parkinson's diagnosis changed his life -- for the better, he says. Michael J. Fox has always been a poster boy. With his youthful good looks and intelligent charm, he rose to fame playing a sassy Republican teenage son of ex-hippie parents in the TV sitcom Family Ties. In the blockbuster Back to the Future film trilogy, he was a time traveler with perfect comedic timing. And in a later sitcom, Spin City, he made us wish all politicians were as personable as his Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty. In 1998, Fox became a poster boy for another reason: He went public with the news he had Parkinson's disease, diagnosed 7 years earlier when he was 30. Parkinson's is marked by: Trembling in the hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face Stiffness of the body Slow movements Impaired balance and coordination. The disease had become unmanageable for the actor, who until then was able to minimize his symptoms thanks to medication, surgery, and good timing. Eventually, the effort became too much. "I needed every bit of those 7 years to say, 'I want to be out there,'" Fox says. "But at a certain point I woke up and said, 'What's the risk? That people will judge you? People are already judging you about whether you wear red shoes or blue shoes. So I talk funny or shake -- why should I restrict myself?'" "You have to take your time and do what you need to do," he says.

‘SHADOW ON THE MESA’ CAST BIOS KEVIN SORBO (Ray Eastman) – For seven years, Kevin Sorbo played the hulking, heroic lead in USA Network’s “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” a role that made him a star. But the self-described jock from Minnetonka, Minnesota (the home of Tonka Toys), the fourth of five kids, got the acting bug at age 11 seeing something quite different – the musical Oklahoma and Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice at Minneapolis’s famed Guthrie Theater. Though he made his first commercial - for Target - while attending the University of Minnesota, Sorbo graduated from Moorehead State University in Fargo, North Dakota, with a dual degree in advertising and marketing. In 1982, after college, Sorbo moved to Texas, where he began studying acting in earnest. A model friend there convinced him to travel to Europe, where he stayed for three years, building a tremendous commercial reel, with spots shot in cities from Milan and Munich to Paris and London. Within days of his return to the States in 1985, he shipped off to Australia for new commercial assignments, returning to L.A. six months later. Sorbo remained in demand through the early 90s, for both television and commercial work – he estimates appearing in 57 spots in the three years prior to being cast as Hercules. After appearing in such series as “Murder, She Wrote,” “Cheers” and “The Commish,” and after seven call backs with producer Sam Raimi, Sorbo was given the role of Hercules. The character appeared first in a series of two hour movies as part of USA Network’s “The Action Pack,” alongside William Shatner’s “Tek Wars” and others – Hercules being the sole survivor of the group and landing its own series.
