8 OCTOBER 2018 I Call 403-263-3044 for advertising opportunities NOLAN HILL • SAGE HILL I OCTOBER 2018 9 FAMILY PROFILE Your Neighbours: the Morin Family Photos by Remember When Photography Sandra and Shawn Morin, both in their mid-twenties, and their two adopted black cats, Coconut and Chestnut, have lived in Nolan/Sage area since 2015. When they were looking to purchase their home, they were looking for a new neighbourhood that was just being developed. They’ve watched Sage/Nolan grow quickly in the last three years and they are excited to see what else is to come.

Sandra is from a town in Ontario called Nobleton, and she has two younger sisters that she misses very much and always is excited to see them. Growing up in Noble- ton was a lot of fun for Sandra. Her parents often took their family on vacations to the Caribbean over the winter holidays, which started her absolute love for the beach and warm temperatures. Other trips included summers in Poland visiting her grandparents.

Shawn is from Bolton, Ontario, and has one older brother and grew up spend- ing a lot of quality time with his family. They would often do things together like celebrating Earth Day and enjoying his mother’s delicious baking. While camping one year with the family, Shawn’s dad was being attacked by mosquitos, so he grabbed what he thought was bug spray close by. As he started to apply the ‘bug spray’, Shawn and his brother silently watched him. Emerging from the tent was his mother; she saw her husband spraying himself. She realized that he was not spray- ing bug spray, but he was actually spraying himself with PAM, the cooking oil. She started laughing out loud. She asked the boys why they hadn’t told him that is was not bug spray and they responded with, “they thought it was some kind of special dad bug spray.” In the end, Shawn’s dad got bitten twice as bad.

Sandra went to Humber College and got her Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource Management. Shawn went to Centennial College and graduated as a Li- cenced Red-Seal Journeyman Technician. The two of them met when Sandra was working at a retail store with Shawn’s mom. He came into work one day to speak with his mother and “I pretty much fell in love, right there and then” said Sandra. After that, she switched automotive shops and he immediately became her me- chanic. After a couple of months, she went in for an oil change and on the ‘return back when’ sticker, he wrote down his personal phone number. Sandra texted him that night. They started dating a few weeks later and now they are happily married.

In the summer, Shawn and Sandra love to go camping. They try to go every week- end and usually take off right after work. In the winter, they enjoy going to a local restaurant/bar for dinner with friends. For Sandra’s 25th birthday they went sky

diving and later that summer they did a horseback ride up a mountain. They definitely want to look back at their lives and have really good memories.

They also love to travel! They were engaged in Cuba, married in the Dominican Republic, and their honey- moon was a month-long trip to Japan, the Thailand and Indonesia. They try and travel as much as work will allow.

They adopted their two cats from AARC’s. They are

www.rememberwhenphotography.ca both 3 years old, and brothers from the same litter. Coconut (or Coco) is smaller and the runt of the lit- ter, but he can be found chasing his ‘bigger’ brother around the house and stealing his dinner. Coco loves to play fetch; if you throw his toy mouse down the stairs he’ll grab it and return it to you. Chestnut (or Chessy), on the other hand loves to cuddle. If you go anywhere near the stairs, Chestnut thinks it’s bed- time and runs up the stairs and meows loudly until you pet him. They are both very vocal cats when Sandra and Shawn get home from work, and they’ve been trained to come when called and sit for meals and they say it feels good having friends within walking and treats. distance. What the Morins love about their community is that Though they aren’t currently involved with any activities there are plenty of walkways and green spaces.
