Motherhood is not Program Highlights merely defined by the bearing and raising of children but is rather a statement regarding the divine nature of women. All women, whether May Calendar or not they bear children, can fulfill the role of mothers. The work they do should also be remembered as we celebrate Mother's Day. Book Ends The U.S. version of the holiday was created by Anna Marie Jarvis as a Behind the Scenes day to honor mothers and motherhood. She held a memorial service for her mother on May 12, 1907, and started a campaign to have In Memoriam Mother's Day a nationally recognized holiday. In 1914, her dream was realized. By the 1920s, she became disillusioned with the Birthdays commercialism of the holiday. The fact that many people sent greeting cards or gave their moms a box of candy (that they ate most of themselves) embittered her against her own holiday. She felt that Welcome New Residents sending a card meant you were just too lazy to write and that candy was a petty sentiment. Welcome New Employees Celebration of mothers can be traced back to Ancient Greece and Rome. In the US, Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May.

National Sustainability Teacher’s Academy Amy’s Salsa (Organic) Company History Amy's Kitchen is a family business… with every member of the family taking part. The company was started in 1987, when Amy was born. Her mom and dad, Rachel and Andy Berliner, carefully nurtured the company as well as the child, paying constant attention to every aspect of its day-to-day activities. We didn’t set out to become the nation’s leading natural frozen food brand. All we wanted to do was create a business that would allow us to earn a living by providing convenient and tasty natural vegetarian meals for people like ourselves, who appreciated good food, but were often too busy to cook "from scratch." We started on a "shoestring," using our own house and barn as headquarters. The founding meetings were held in the same room where we were married and where our daughter Amy was born. This was in 1987, before the idea of "organic" food had become well known, and when there were very few frozen meals available for vegetarians to eat, either in health food stores or supermarkets. We were, however, very fortunate in being in the right place at the right time. The number of vegetarians had increased dramatically, as had consumer awareness of the harmful effects on their health and the environment of chemicals in the food supply. Amy’s has created over 88 frozen meals. In 1999, we introduced a grocery line that now includes canned soups, beans and chili as well as jarred pasta sauces and salsas.
