This piece is my friend’s version of life represented in Origami where 2456 pieces of small paper are individually folded and interlocked together without any glue. She folded each paper in the cab, metro, flight and train while people stared at her trying to figure out what she’s up to without even looking at the pieces in her hand. She would continue to do so even if you blind fold her. She used 33 shades of colours to ge the best Ombré of life. How life transitions from birth with a pure white soul of a baby embracing various stages and colours of life and eventually goes down to a death a blunt black reality. ADITI ANUJ Aditi Anuj is origami enthusiast. They call her the Origami girl. Her research addresses the issue of ethics in feminist translation since the Canadian School and looks at what feminising a translation means in practice and in theory. She explores these questions in relation to global political events involving women and locale feminist movements (such as the hashtags Metoo and BalanceTonPorc) to understand the implications of linguistic gender constructs in translation. ITSNA DINURRIYAH Itsna Syahadatud Dinurriyah is a PhD student at the University of Leeds. She is in her second year in World Cinema (Film Studies) and her research interest is masculinity in Daniel Craig’s Bond. HUIMIN WANG Huimin Wang is a PhD English Researcher at the University of Southampton with CSC Scholarship. Her project is titled ‘Romeo and Juliet and Peony Pavilion: A Comparative Study of the Performance Traditions of Shakespeare and Chinese Kun Opera’. By comparing the two plays’ performance and reception history, she explores the way emotions are manifested across time and space. Since both plays have a tradition of adaptation, she studies how the corresponding political-economic-social-cultural context shapes the adapted productions. She further explores the common patterns between the two theatrical traditions, and, ultimately, her project endeavours to modernise Kun opera. She is also a certified and award-winning Chinese-English translator and interpreter. LEAH MCBRIDE Leah McBride is a PhD Candidate in History of Art at the University of Glasgow in her final year of study. She received an MLitt in the History of Art from the University of Glasgow in 2014 and a BA (Hons) in History of Art from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2012. Her PhD thesis explores contemporary representations of collective traumas with an emphasis on the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide, the violence caused by the War on Drugs in Mexico, the Yugoslav Wars, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. LORENZO MENDELLI Lorenzo Mandelli did his BA in English with Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is currently completing the Erasmus Mundus Crossways in Cultural Narratives, a two-year international master’s programme at the Universidad Tres de Febrero (Argentina), University of St Andrews (Scotland) and Université de Perpignan (France). 7 MALIN CHRISTINA WIKSTRÖM Malin Christina Wikström is a Swedish-Norwegian PhD student at the University of Aberdeen, currently in her write-up year (4th year). Her thesis, in the area of translation studies, discusses the role of the translator in society and literature, using case studies translated between Norwegian, Swedish and English. Some of her other research interests are the representation of sexuality and gender in literature and the act of fighting stigma towards mental health through literature. ROAN RUNGE Roan Runge is a MLitt student in Celtic and Gaelic at University of Glasgow. They are currently in the first year of their PhD studies. Their research focuses on the boundary between human and animal in medieval Irish literature, with a particular focus on how figures on this boundary can be read in the light of modern queer and trans studies. SHELBY JUDGE Shelby Judge a first-year PhD student at the University of Glasgow. She is in the English Literature Department, in the School of Critical Studies. Shelby’s thesis topic is ‘Exploring contemporary women writers’ adaptation of myths for feminist purpose, specifically within the Canongate Myth Series.’ Shelby also aims to refer to literature beyond the Canongate Myth Series, in order to draw wider conclusions regarding contemporary women writers’ adaptations of myth. Shelby comes from an interdisciplinary academic background in English Literature and Women’s Studies, with previous research projects focussing on Carol Ann Duffy; Margaret Atwood; the sex/gender binary; contemporary feminist discourse; feminist literary criticism; and ecofeminism. Shelby’s overarching research interests are in feminist theory and contemporary women’s fiction. WILLIAM BURNS William is from Paisley and is studying towards a PhD in English Literature in Glasgow. Under the supervision of Willy Maley and Lynn Abrams, he is chipping away at a project called ‘Threads of Memory: Oral History and Paisley’s Thread Mills’. He interviews women who worked in thread mills in Paisley and the surrounding areas about their memories of work, and will produce a collection of creative writing based on the stories that are shared with him. MARYEM BOUZID Maryem Bouzid is a fourth year PhD researcher in English literature and Postcolonial studies at the University of Aberdeen. Her research focuses primarily on notions of ambivalence and hybridity in colonial discourses and literature. 8 Charlotte Le Bervet A CRITICAL OVERVIEW OF FEMINISM AND/IN TRANSLATION: CONSTRUCTING CULTURES AND IDENTITIES THROUGH AN INTERDISCIPLINARY EXCHANGE CHARLOTTE LE BERVET (UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW) Abstract: ‘A bridge between cultures’ and ‘les belles infidèles’ are commonly used metaphors to describe translation. The first one shows that translation is a border zone where collaborative dialogues between languages and cultures take place whereas the second example highlights the feminity of the discipline (Simon 1996). They suggest, however, that translation is never a neutral act, but rather a creative act of re-appropriation that contributes to the construction of identities, knowledge and culture (Bassnett and Lefevere 1990). Literary translation can thus be a shaping force for change and renewal. This article presents an overview of Feminist Translation and demonstrates how this approach has, through ‘transformance’ and transgression, played a catalytic role in shaping women’s identities, cultures and literatures. Due to its political and historical background in second-wave feminism and French Feminism, this translation approach has not only drawn attention to gendered language and the place of women’s writing, but also forced Translation Studies to rethink pre-established concepts and has participated in the development of feminisms and in the recovering of lost female voices. Treviño Investigadora independiente [email protected] Recibido: 15/02/2018 – Aceptado: 05/06/2018 DOI: 10.17533/udea.lyl.n74a06 Abstract: This article analyzes the concept of generation as a methodological tool for con- temporary literary research, advancing its use to characterize aesthetic trends in the artistic production of diverse groups of coetaneous writers. By providing a cultural history of the uses of the category in Mexican literary studies, it examines the applicability and limitations of the concept of generation, highliting the importance of contextual and diachronic aware- ness in its deployment. This study then advocates for an understanding of a generation as a porous sociobiological category that groups several people under a similar Weltanschauung. It contends that the heterogeneity of Mexican cultural nationalism generates an equivocal ground for the literature of the generation of writers born in the 1960s and 1970s, and argues for the consideration of the cluster of Mexican authors born in these decades as a generation. He graduated with high honors from the Indiana University School of Music with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and an Outside Field (Spanish) in 2003 after writing a thesis titled “Resonances of Faulkner in La muerte de Artemio Cruz.” He began at Brown University’s Department of His- panic Studies in 2005 and received his Master’s Degree in 2008; the title of his major paper was “El realismo grotesco en Rayuela.” After receiving a competitive dissertation fellowship, Kyle began work on this dissertation in 2009 and completed it in November 2012.
