big blue volleyball 2009 - 4 LOOKING AT 2009

Millikin volleyball head coach Debbie Kiick has led the Big Blue

to seven straight 20 wins seasons. In 2009, Kiick believes she

has the talent and experience to continue that winning tradition

and improve on Millikin’s 24-13 record last season.

The Big Blue welcome back twelve letter winners including five

starters from last season. Kiick is confident this team will be ready

to compete at high level and she has loaded the Big Blue

schedule with several of the nation’s top teams to get Millikin

ready to do battle in the tough College Conference of Illinois and

Wisconsin.

The Big Blue will look to three talented seniors for leadership

this season. Outside hitter Kacyi Creviston had 250 kills, 73 digs

and 44 blocks last season. Her play earned her a CCIW Player of the Week.

Millikin will look to senior middle hitter Lauren West to be a force in the middle.

Last season, West had a team high 70 blocks along with 334 kills, 69 digs and

23 service aces. Senior Elizabeth Lynch will spearhead the Millikin defensive

effort after recording 553 digs last seasons. Lynch is also a force with the

serve scoring 46 service aces last season.

Millikin returns four junior letters winners who will also have an impact in

2009. Middle hitter Kylee Brown had 207 kills, 67 blocks and 20 digs last

season. Kiick is expecting a significant contribution from Becca Zefron who

returns after missing last season with an injury. As a freshman, Zefron had

273 kills and 347 digs. Juniors Abby Ott and Lizzy Gabel will also need to

make contributions this season for the Big Blue to be successful. Sophomore

Kelsy England is back after an impressive freshman season when she

recorded a team high 418 kills along with 433 digs, 31 blocks and 42 service

aces. Sophomore letter

winners Tara Boyer, Laura Sagehorn, Christina Stoll and Lindsey Storm could also be in the mix for playing

time this season.

Kiick has brought in strong recruiting class and several freshmen will challenge for playing time this

season. Setters Brittany Cardott and Michelle Hoerber will be in the mix to be the Big Blue’s new setters.

Freshman Stevene McGee will challenge for time at right side hitter and freshman Erin Reed and Ally Reis

could see time as a defensive specialists for the Big Blue.
