Dear 6th Grade Families, I hope you are all enjoying a splendid summer filled with joy and inspired moments! As the school year approaches, it is time to begin planning for sixth grade. I can’t look at a rock or gaze up at the stars without imagining bringing their story to life in our upcoming Geology and Astronomy main lessons. I am very happy to welcome Michael Chinapen, Erin Serrano, and Sam Weinberger to the constellation of stars in our class. What an exciting time in your child’s life. Sixth grade is filled with new challenges and experiences, all of which weave together to form a firm foundation for their continued growth as individuals. Throughout this coming year there will be opportunities for parents and teachers to work together in supporting our students within the community. Below please find a supply list for the upcoming year. Students will be required to purchase gym clothes from our school bookstore, and many of the items marked with an asterisk on the list below are available for purchase at the bookstore as-well. If you have anything from 5th grade that is still in good condition, please feel free to have your child use it again in 6th grade, including dividers and binders. • 1 3-ring 2" wide binder for main lesson material (can use current binder) • 2 packages of dividers • 1 package of wide-ruled paper • 1 3-hole pencil case to fit 3-ring binder • 1 C-thru ruler* • 1 Staedtler compass • 1 set of Mercurius colored pencils 24 count* • 3 lead pencils and 1 pencil sharpener • 1 eraser • 1 fountain pen + ink cartridge* • 1 ink eradicator pen* • 1 set of V5 Pilot Fine Point Colored Pens • Gym uniform purchased at the School Bookstore Other important items that you child needs: • A dedicated pair of gym shoes that will remain at school. • A water bottle with a safety cap. 225 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530 Tel. (516) 742-3434 Fax (516) 742-3457 www.waldorfgarden.org Please have your child bring all his/her school books on the first day so I can review them. They should also bring all their school supplies so they can set up their desks and cubbies throughout the first week as we work together to set the classroom. The first day of school is an assembly day with a 12:00 dismissal! Students should be dressed in assembly attire, as outlined in our school handbook. They will need to bring a snack the first day. Please make sure your child completes the summer reading assignments required. Students should bring their completed book reports to school with them the first day. This assignment serves as my introduction to their writing ability and literary skills, and I very much look forward to reading them. Please mark your calendars for our first class meeting on Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00 pm. Our class trip to Glenbrook is November 4th-8th. Our class play this year will be on May 14th and 15th. I am honored to guide your child along their middle school journey! If there are any questions or concerns please contact me through my school email address or by phone. Peace to you, Anthony Yaeger Rising 6th Grade Teacher The Waldorf School of Garden City 225 Cambridge Ave. Garden City, NY 11530 P. 610.883.3678 E.
