The legislation was adopted at the closing meeting of a session of the Standing Committee of the NPC yesterday. In recent years, some Western countries and organizations have smeared China’s domestic and foreign policies, and imposed so-called sanctions upon related state organs, organizations and public servants by using pretexts including Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong-related issues. The purpose of formulating the law is to counter, fight and oppose unilateral sanctions on China imposed by foreign countries, safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests as well as to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and organizations, the official said. The formulation of the law is in line with international law and the basic norms governing international relations, said Huo Zhengxin, a professor with China University of Political Science and Law,noting that it also suits international practices. It is also in line with the spirit of the UN resolutions, said Li Qingming, a research fellow with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The law only takes aim at those entities and individuals who grossly interfere in China’s internal affairs and spread rumours about and smear, contain and suppress China, Li said. News Release Household Listing June 2021

BRIDGETOWN, June 8th, 2021

The Barbados Statistical Service (BSS) wishes to inform the public that the 2020 round of the Population and Housing Census will commence on August 1st 2021. To ensure that the Census is completed accurately, a listing exercise will occur prior to the start date. This exercise began on June 6th 2021 and will provide a record of where households reside and basic information on all buildings on the island, residential or otherwise.

As a result, a team of household listers has been engaged by the Barbados Statistical Service and will be visiting households across the island. All household listers will be carrying picture identification and the Department is appealing to persons to co-operate with them.

Personnel from the Barbados Statistical Service will be adhering to the national COVID-19 protocols and householders are also advised to do the same when interacting with them. Also note, the BSS survey protocols dictate that there should be no entry of the respondents’ homes.

All information collected will be kept in the strictest confidence and will be used for statistical purposes only. The Department is relying on the assistance of all households in this exercise and is therefore asking all individuals to fully cooperate with the household listers when they visit. Curtain rises on the Tribeca Festival, and on New York, too NEW YORK – The 20th Tribeca Festival is aiming to not just rebuild itself after its 2020 edition was largely scuttled by the pandemic, but to help revitalise its hometown. This year’s Tribeca, which opened Wednesday with Jon M. P R O HOROSCOPES S A ARIES (March 21-April 19). You're trying to N concentrate but don't be surprised if your thoughts D have a tendency to wander off into a world of their own. If you can't remain focused, put off matters C that need analysis and consideration for another O time. Give your imagination free rein and you N could come up with some great ideas. S TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You feel disap- pointed that someone recommended to you by a friend turns out to be unreliable. You had trusted this recommendation. You might wish you had made further enquiries before agreeing this deal. Don't blame yourself if maybe you were expecting too much from them. GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Commitments you Z have made are starting to make you anxious. You I feel uncertain about what you have taken on as this T is already proving too much for you. You would S prefer more freedom of choice than you currently have. In order to get other people to understand, you need to say what is on your mind. CANCER (June 22-July 22). Praise is coming your way from a superior, for all your recent hard work. It's a good time to establish new friendships. There may be a need to devote some time and ef- fort to learning new routines. Be ready for some startling developments in your professional or per- R sonal life. E LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You respect rules if you X can see the reason behind them. You don't like to go against those in authority but this may be what M you will have to do today. If someone in high places O has decided to change routines that have worked R well up to now, speak your mind. G VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You aren't yet sure A how but a private matter seems to have become N public knowledge. You need to work out how you are going to cope with this. Don't feel obliged to an- swer anyone's probing questions just to satisfy their curiosity. Pretending you don't know what they are talking about will get them off your back. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You're worried about having made a wrong investment. Sit tight and re- P sist the urge to make a rash judgement. Help given H to a charitable concern either through time, skills A or money will be surprisingly satisfying. Don't be N surprised if you are invited to join a group of T Trustees. O SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Group activities M you had been looking forward to have suddenly lost their appeal. Either you aren't feeling like mixing with a large group of people, even if strict safety rules have been put in place or you've spent so long on your own, you no longer feel any desire to go out in public. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Some people don't realise how you hate to have your freedom M curbed. You don't have time to take all their phone A calls or to respond to their constant demands. When R a manipulative friend or relative tries to take over Y your life your natural reaction will be to run in the opposite direction. W CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Those in charge O of a team effort are expecting twice as much work R from you in half the usual time. You don't like hav- T ing to cut corners but this will be the only way to H meet a deadline. Make this clear when people are pushing you to get the job done. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Having more faith in your talents will improve your future outlook. Prepare well beforehand and you won't be disap- M pointed with the outcome of a meeting or interview. O Be sure you don't sell yourself short. After a busy T and demanding week, all you will want to do, this H evening, is rest, relax and commit yourself to as lit- E tle as possible. R PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You don't have to go along with anything you feel unsure about just be- G cause that's what people are expecting. If you can O see flaws in a project, share your observations. It O S will be a relief to find that someone else was think- E ing the same thing and this issue will be addressed in a serious and practical way. Dressage still going strong PAGE 26

However, there is per- sistent steaming that’s visible from the summit area,” she said. “And when we do get some views based on flights passing over and, of course, the thermal imagery that we get, as well as hot spot detection by NASA, all confirm that there is still a lot of hot materials still very close to the surface in the crater. “This is right now evident in the the steaming vents that are still noticeable or present in the dome, and the volcano contin- ues to be in a state of unrest, and there is of course an in- creased risk of lahars, as I men- tioned before, during periods of heavy rainfall.” She noted that this is some- thing the Seismic Research Centre will continue to look at in the next weeks to months, and assured that they remain committed to continuing to ad- vise the public of any changes in activity based on the moni- toring data collected.
