Officiant and People Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Deacon: Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen. All stand ONLY A HOLY GOD Who else commands all the hosts of heaven Forever a Holy God Who else could make every king bow down Come and worship the Holy God Who else can whisper and darkness trembles Only a Holy God What other glory consumes like fire What other power can raise the dead What other beauty demands such praises What other name remains undefeated What other splendour outshines the sun Only a Holy God What other majesty rules with justice Who else could rescue me from my failing Only a Holy God Who else would offer His only Son Come and behold Him Who else invites me to call Him Father The One and the Only Only a Holy God Cry out sing holy Only my Holy God THE COLLECT OF THE DAY Officiant and People O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. January 3 Christmastide 2 THE LESSON Deacon A Reading from Jeremiah Jeremiah 31:7-14 Following the reading Deacon The Word of the Lord People Thanks be to God. THE PSALM Deacon A Reading from Psalm 84 All stand and pray responsively by whole verse How lovely are your dwellings, O Lord God of hosts! My soul has a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Indeed, the sparrow has found her a house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young, even your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they who dwell in your house; they will be always praising you. Blessed is the one whose strength is in you, in whose heart are your ways, Who going through the valley of misery uses it for a well; indeed, the early rains fill the pools with water. They will go from strength to strength, and the God of gods shall be seen by them in Zion. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; hearken, O God of Jacob. Behold, O God, our defender, and look upon the face of your Anointed. For one day in your courts is better than a thousand; I would rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of ungodliness. For the Lord God is a light and defense; the Lord will give grace and honor, and no good thing shall he withhold from those who live a godly life. O Lord God of hosts, blessed is the one who puts his trust in you. Officiant and People Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. THE GOSPEL Deacon The holy Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ according to Matthew People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Matthew 2:13-23 Following the reading Deacon The Gospel the Lord People Praise to you, Lord Christ. January 3 Christmastide 3 THE HOMILY THE NICENE CREED Officiant and People together, all standing We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
