Mothers’ and infants’ access to nutrition-specific interventions can influence these immediate determinants. At the household and community level, women’s status, household food security, hygiene and socio economic conditions further contribute to children’s nutrition outcomes (underlying and basic determinants). Interventions such as social safety nets, sanitation programs, women’s empowerment and agriculture programs have the potential to improve nutrition by addressing underlying and basic determinants.     State Profile Ground Water Scenario of Haryana Area (Sq.km) 44,212 Rainfall (mm) 615 Total Districts / Blocks 21 Districts Hydrogeology Based on yield potential characteristics of aquifers, the State can be divided into three zones. The first one comprises of 26,090 sq.km in parts of Sirsa, Hissar, Bhiwani, Mahendergarh & Jind Districts, where tubewells can yield 50 m3/hr. The second one falls in parts of Hissar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Bhiwani and Gurgaon Districts, covering an area of 7100 sq.km tubewells in this zone, can yield between 50-150m3/hr. The third one extends by 9200 sq.km in parts of Ambala, Kuruskshetra, Karnal and Sonepat Districts, where the yield varies between 150-200 m3/hr.     Ministry of Health and Family Welfare National Family Health Survey - 4 2015 -16 District Fact Sheet Kaithal Haryana International Institute for Population Sciences (Deemed University) Mumbai 1 Introduction The National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4), the fourth in the NFHS series, provides information on population, health and nutrition for India and each State / Union territory. NFHS-4, for the first time, provides district-level estimates for many important indicators. The contents of previous rounds of NFHS are generally retained and additional components are added from one round to another. In this round, information on malaria prevention, migration in the context of HIV, abortion, violence during pregnancy etc. have been added. The scope of clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical testing (CAB) or Biomarker component has been expanded to include measurement of blood pressure and blood glucose levels. NFHS-4 sample has been designed to provide district and higher level estimates of various indicators covered in the survey. However, estimates of indicators of sexual behaviour, husband’s background and woman’s work, HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, and, domestic violence will be available at State and national level only. As in the earlier rounds, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India designated International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai as the nodal agency to conduct NFHS-4. The main objective of each successive round of the NFHS has been to provide essential data on health and family welfare and emerging issues in this area. NFHS-4 data will be useful in setting benchmarks and examining the progress in health sector the country has made over time.
