In particular we would like to thank the Dean of Agriculture Professor Alex Evans; Dr Eileen Gibney; Damien Dempsey; Tara Walsh and all the staff from the School of Agriculture and Food Science Programme Office; Iris Burke; Catherine Byrne; Karen Holland; Annette Patchett and Irene Rose. We would like to acknowledge the companies who have given sponsorship and donations to the committee, a special mention to FRS who sponsored this year’s Graduate Booklet. We would like to thank all the companies who attended on the day, without whom, Careers Day 2016 would not be possible. Foreword from Chairperson It is a privilege to welcome my fellow fourth year students and potential employers to our annual Careers Day in the UCD Student Centre Complex. Each year this event continues to grow from strength to strength and it proves to be extremely successful for both employers and students. This event is unique within UCD where students take it upon themselves to organise their own careers event which shows initiative, leadership and organisational skills. The Agri-food sector continues to grow and with the abolition of milk quotas in 2015, this is an exciting time for graduates and the Careers Day has a significant role to play for the graduates of 2016. It provides them with an opportunity to showcase all the skills and talents which they have acquired throughout their four years of study. Careers Day also provides an excellent opportunity for all companies present here today to handpick suitable future graduates for their business. I can assure you that the students here today are at the forefront of modern technology. The skills developed by these graduates over the past four years with the aid of their lecturers, make them the ideal candidates to embark on long and successful careers in the exciting Agri-food sector. The Graduate Handbook provides a brief synopsis of the Class of 2016 and it serves as an invaluable reference to companies who wish to recruit staff. As Careers Chairperson, I on behalf of the Careers Committee would like to thank all who contributed in any way to the success of today especially Farm Relief Services who sponsored this Graduate Booklet. I would especially like to thank Mr Bill Callanan, Chief Inspector, Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine who has taken time out of his busy schedule to be here and speak to us. I would also like to thank Dean of Agriculture Professor Alex Evans and President of the ASA, Mr. Neil Keane for attending Careers Day. Mr. Damien Dempsey and Ms. Tara Walsh deserve a special thanks for without their continued support and assistance in the last number of months, today would have not been possible. Their advice and guidance throughout the year has helped to ensure today was a success. I would also like to thank all the staff of the School of Agriculture and Food Science Programme Office. I would like to thank the Careers Committee for their hard work and tremendous effort in preparing for today. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow students every success and happiness in the future. It has been a pleasure and a great experience to hold the position of Agricultural Science Careers Chairperson for 2015/16 and I will always remember it. This publication and this event is well established in the UCD calendar and is testament to the enthusiasm and commitment that both students and employers have to the agriculture and food industries in Ireland and further afield. The Careers Day is a forum where employers and students come together to learn about each other and exchange information on skills and opportunities. The booklet presents a short profile and the contact details of each student and will be an invaluable resource in the months ahead. Agriculture and food businesses, and all their associated industries, continue to be highly regarded in Ireland and make significant contributions to our economy and our society. While progress is impressive, many challenges face those in the industry all along the value chain. This is where the UCD graduates, with their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm, have an opportunity to make a difference and develop strong and rewarding careers

July 11th, 1921: I joined the Irish Volunteers in the summer of 1915 at Courtnacuddy. We were enrolled, by two men from Enniscorthy Company - Thomas Doyle, Shannon, and Seán G1lagher, Shannon. We continued weekly parades, which included drilling under an ex-soldier - Jack Quirke (decd.). We also had cross-country runs. During the winter of 1915 our activities consisted more of indoor drilling and lectures. Iwas attending school at this time, the school being run by Professor de Lacy at Court St., Enniscorthy, for comnrcial students. I attended as usual on the morning of the Rising at Enniscorthy in 1916 and found the school closed and my teacher, Professor de Lacy, down at the Athenaeum out with the boys. I, in company with another student, Matthew Breen, Ballyhyland, Caim, (since deceased), remained on in town for the week, When the Rising was. over the British demanded six leaders and my teacher, Professor de Lacy, was one of the six, with Seumas. N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare Harbour Option Selection Newsletter - March 2021 N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare Harbour l Option Selection l Newsletter March 2021 Page 1 Dear local resident, First and foremost, we hope this finds you safe and well in these challenging times. We are getting in touch to update you on the current status of the N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare Harbour project. Currently, Wexford County Council is in the process of studying feasible options for the development of the project, taking into account the feedback we received from local residents and community groups during the public consultation phase in July and August last year. The main objective of this stage is to identify a preferred scheme option that will deliver a safe, sustainable, high-quality and effective solution to meet the future transport needs of County Wexford, the South East region, and the country generally. The selected scheme option will then be developed further and in more depth, before it is submitted for planning approval. These are times of uncertainty and transformation, and the project must respond to these changes in order to ensure the development of a proposed scheme that meets the future needs of society in a sustainable and effective manner and in line with changing government policy. As a result, the option selection process is taking longer than was initially anticipated. This newsletter describes some of the complexities and challenges that have extended the option selection process, and presents some of the studies that are being carried out to assess the potential impacts that these changes may have on the project’s development.

  • St Vincent De Paul Wexford Calling on All Businesses and Householders to Donate Their Old Newspapers
St Vincent de Paul Wexford Calling on all Businesses and Householders to Donate their Old Newspapers St Vincent de Paul has announced a new project; the charity is appealing to the households and businesses of County Wexford to donate old newspapers by bringing them to a local St Vincent de Paul Newspaper Recycling Bin. St Vincent de Paul has partnered with Wexford community enterprise project, Recycling 2000, for this initiative. Recycling 2000 will recycle the newspapers making a donation to St Vincent de Paul for all newspapers collected at the nominated recycling points. All funds generated from this initiative will go directly to helping the people in need within our communities. “We are very excited about this initiative and are confident that the people of Wexford will again get behind us. Our goal is that Recycling 2000 will collect 50% more newspapers than they did last year which will translate into a sizable donation to the St Vincent de Paul.” commented Mary Dempsey, Wexford Area President, Society of St Vincent de Paul. The good work does not end there. Recycling 2000, a community based recycling project has an environmentally friendly ethos. All old newspapers collected will be used to produce environmentally based products. In addition, by sourcing a larger proportion of newspapers locally the level of handling and unnecessary transportation of old newspapers will be significantly reduced, thus reducing the carbon footprint of all involved. “The majority of households and businesses throughout the country are now segregating their waste and have adopted excellent recycling habits. We are now looking for these same people to make one more change and to bring their newspapers to a SVP Newspaper Recycle Bin.
