Jean Gillmore brings enthusiasm, experimentation and detail knowledge to feature projects and more, with 30 years’ experience and 18 feature animation credits to her name, including “Frozen”, “Zootopia”, “Rio” and “The Lion King”. When deeply involved in pre-production VISUAL DEVELOPMENT, Jean will engage at all levels helping steer the project’s world and appeal through CHARACTERS, their demeanor and attire -- meticulously guiding development from sketch to modeling and cloth “behavior”. EXPERTISE • Pre-production conceptualization and visual development art, specializing in character and costume design. • Character design expansion (turnarounds, poses and expressions) for use in traditional or CG animation modeling, illustration, and toy production. • Have working knowledge of costume construction and detail, historical/cultural styles, and fabric applications. Turnarounds for costume, layer breakdowns and fabric/materials call-outs for CG. • Adept at gathering, analyzing and distilling research material details per project requirements. • Quality control supervision for character merchandise/toys/related product continuity with on- or off-site vendors.

2018 – UNIVERSAL ANIMATION STUDIOS/ (Monkey Business)- Assisted designers by creating “inked-look” final drawings of main character’s and incidentals’ costume changes, plus miscellaneous other illustrations for animated TV series episodes, “Curious George” (seasons 10 and 11).

2017-2018 – WALT DISNEY FEATURE ANIMATION- Visual Development/COSTUME for “Frozen 2” (working title) on the movie leads from the original “Frozen” movie---Anna, Elsa and Kristoff--- plus miscellaneous secondary and incidental characters. Working directly with Production Designer and Art Director/Characters. Subsequently worked as Visual Development artist on a future project in development (unnamed) slated for 2021 release.

2017 – UNIVERSAL ANIMATION STUDIOS/ (Monkey Business)- Assisted multiple designers by creating “inked-look” cleanup drawings of main characters’ costume changes and incidental characters/costumes for TV animated series’ episodes of “Curious George” (seasons 10 and 11).

2017 - DREAMWORKS TV ANIMATION- Costume design and development for an animated TV series (unnamed, in development) lead character and sidekick, plus color variations.

2016-2017 - RENEGADE ANIMATION- Character and Costume Design for animated TV series team on “The Tom & Jerry Show” (Season 3), creating various costumes and poses for starring characters per episode theme. Also designed secondary and incidental characters/costumes, with turns and poses.

2016 release - WALT DISNEY FEATURE ANIMATION- Visual Development for “Zootopia” animated feature. Created early character and costume variations for various animal worlds/scenarios, and some leads.

2014 - “SYMPHONY OF THE SOUL”- Visual Development (character) and rough story boards for pitch animatic (Phase One); part of team generating film accompaniment for live concert performance piece with music by Ilan Chester/Tulio Cremisini.

2014 - UNIVERSAL ANIMATION STUDIOS- Visual Development pre-production on new dinosaur characters for DVD release, “The Land Before Time XIV”. Created rough design options and poses exploring character for story board artists.

2013 – DISNEYTOON STUDIOS- Visual Development for (untitled) prospective TV series; created main character versions and costumes as suggested by treatment describing rich and exotic fantasy world.

2011-2013 - WALT DISNEY FEATURE ANIMATION- Character Costume design/coordinator for CG, working directly with Art Director and Character Designer for "Frozen" animated feature. Responsible for research, design roughs, costume turnarounds and construction diagrams for modelers; fabric/materials call-outs for Look Development and Cloth Simulation.

2010 - SCARPACI/KELLY PRODUCTIONS- Designed germ characters for “Bill Nye the Science Guy” episode

2008 - BLUE SKY STUDIOS- “Rio” COSTUME concepts/turnarounds for lead and secondary/incidental CG characters.

2005-2007 - DISNEYTOON STUDIOS- Character & Costume Design/Visual Development for two projects involving Tinker Bell classic character; aided in the transition of the traditionally-animated original concept to the CG final, by developing concepts, turnarounds and range-of motion details for CG modelers on existing characters and new.

2003-2005 - THE HELPFUL DOO-ITS PROJECT- Developed “Dewey Doo-it” character concept and created additional characters for series of children’s books; ILLUSTRATED the four first books, working directly with the writers.

2002-2003 - WALT DISNEY PICTURES & TV- Character design/development and 2-D turnarounds for CG modelers for film in development, “Gnomeo and Juliet” (shelved). Co- production of Walt Disney Feature Animation and Rocket Pictures.

2000-2006 - MATTEL ENTERTAINMENT (with MAINFRAME ENTERTAINMENT, INC.)- Character Designer for secondary and incidental “Barbie” DVD direct-to-video fairy tale series characters; character COSTUMER. 2-D turnarounds and range-of-motion poses/expressions for CG modelers.

1999-2000 - DREAMWORKS ANIMATION- Concept Character Designer/ Visual Development Artist focusing on characters in feature animation scripts in development.

1989-1999 - WALT DISNEY FEATURE ANIMATION- Pre-production Visual Development Staff Artist (concentration in Character Design), involved variously in concept visuals through to rough production models on seventeen traditionally animated theatrical releases. Also designed and implemented a Character Design Mentorship program under the direction of the Artist Development Department. SEE FILM CREDITS ABOVE.

1985-1988 - MARVEL PRODUCTIONS- TV Animation Character Model Artist and Coordinating Model Supervisor on the Emmy-award-winning Jim Henson’s “Muppet Babies” series. Trained/supervised a team of 3-10 designers in two-week production turnaround schedules. Helped visually develop new projects with staff writers during off- season stretches.

1983-1984 - WALT DISNEY CONSUMER PRODUCTS- Designer working in conjunction with Publishing and Merchandise, monitoring quality control on existing character lines; also, developed NEW product lines and packaging for company products and theme park merchandise.
