NOTES OF THE NIGHT

Anthony Stolarz made his NHL debut Sunday vs. Calgary. Stolarz became the first NHL goaltender to come out of the state of New Jersey, and became the first Flyers goaltender to win his NHL debut since Rob Zepp did it in Winnipeg on December 21, 2014. Stolarz was recalled by the Flyers on November 14 after an injury to Michal Neuvirth and had dressed for the Flyers as a backup 26 times over the last two seasons before playing his first game.

Wayne Simmonds leads the Flyers in scoring with 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points. Claude Giroux is two back with four goals and 15 assists for 19 points, while Jake Voracek has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points as well. Voracek snapped a streak of six games without a point with a goal and an assist on Sunday, his longest such stretch since he went seven games without one from Nov. 25 to Dec. 7, 2013. Voracek is fourth in the NHL with 81 shots on goal, while Giroux leads the league with 11 power play points. Giroux has points in consecutive games after having just one assist in his previous six contests.

The Flyers come into tonight’s game with a record of 2-5-2 in games following wins this season. They are trying to pick up consecutive victories for the first time since Oct. 30 – Nov. 3. That stands as the only winning streak the Flyers have posted so far this year.

The Flyers lead the league with 758 shots on goal this season and are second with 33.0 shots per game. They had a season-high 43 shots Sunday vs. Calgary, the second consecutive game in which they’ve hit the 40-shot mark. They have outshot the opponent 85-55 in the last two games. They have outshot their opponent in 14 of their 23 games this season, but are only 6-7-1 when doing so.

The Flyers continue to rank second in the NHL in power play percentage at 25.0 percent (20 for 80), but the power play has scored only three times in its last 22 opportunities (13.6 pct) over the last seven contests, including Friday’s game when the Flyers did not have a power play opportunity.

The Flyers are second in the NHL in total goals (72) and are third in average goals scored per game (3.13). At the same time, they are tied with Dallas for the most goals allowed (76) and the highest goals-against per game average at 3.30.
