SYNOPSIS Scene 1—Hunger­ poem

Scene 2—An old woman holds a clock that has no hands. The writer asks for the time. The old woman tells him the time.

Scene 3—The writer meets his friend on the street. He tells him about women falling out of the window.

Scene 4—At home, the writer wants to work on a story. The old woman enters his room and orders him around. She sits in his chair and dies.

Scene 6—The writer meets a young lady at the bakery. They decide to go to his place.

Bill Beckley Bill Beckley is a New York-based conceptual artist who garnered recognition in the 1970s for work that combines photographic images and text to form repetitive, often highly sexualized compositions. Pioneering the use of saturated color photography and overt references to popular advertising tropes, Beckley and contemporaries like William Wegman, John Baldessari, and Gerhard Richter are sometimes referred to as part of the Narrative , a loosely associated group of artists who influenced the Pictures Generation. In the 1990s Beckley’s conceptual explorations led him to edit a series of academic essays called Aesthetics Today for the School of Visual Arts, where he has taught semiotics since 1970. His most recent solo show, Bill Beckley: Facts (Fuck) I Love You, was on view in Manhattan at Friedman Benda Gallery this past fall. Hanging in the Peter Jay Sharp Opera House Lobby, I’m Prancin’ is a photograph of vibrantly colored, swirling ribbons— of digital manipulation—which takes its inspiration from the energetic lyrics of a Jack White song. Planned Giving Another way to help BAM prepare for the future is by making a provision in your estate plans. You create a legacy for many generations to come and ensure BAM’s excellence continues for the next 150 years.
